- Help coach counselors in appropriate ways to handle behavior issues.
- Provide weekly updates to camp leadership team.
- Implement behavior policies.
- Guard campers safety and welfare at all times.
- Support an inclusive and positive environment by developing and training staff to incorporating appropriate modifications and accommodations as needed.
- Works with staff to manage camper discipline issues and provide support to both camper and staff. Provide effective communication to parents regarding discipline issues.
- Assists as a member of the leadership team with plans, schedules, and facilitates program activities that are developmentally appropriate and which promote camper skill and character development.
- Organizes, leads, and assists with facilitation of all-camp special events.
- Assist staff in: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; and implementing strategies for weakening behavior.
- Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
- Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions.
- Ensures all First Coast YMCA standards and best practices are implemented and followed.
- Applies YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to best practices, emergency procedures, medical and disciplinary situations and child abuse prevention.
- Ensures the health and safety of all members/guests.
- Inspect physical space to ensure the safety, orderliness, sanitation and cleanliness of facilities.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Three or more year's related experience preferred, as a behavior interventionist
- Minimum age requirements may apply; for example, minimum age of 21.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications prior to the first day of the program.
- Ability to develop, train and implement quality developmentally appropriate activities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and team oriented.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance and direction of the Program Director, the Behavior Specialist - Seasonal, will plan, supervise, and implement camp wide behavior management system that will allow children to develop skills, friendships, and the YMCA character value traits of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Offers ongoing communication with parents and caregivers as partners around program goals. Ensure staff understand and apply appropriate listening and speaking techniques when working with children and youth.

Provides ongoing training and resources around child and youth development techniques and strategies for staff.

Actively implements regular evaluations of program goals, environment and outcomes.
Project Management:
Reviews program plans and records to ensure that they are consistent with evidence based practice.

Uses best practices, guidelines and method of youth development in daily work.
Recognizes the social, emotional and cognitive and physical stages and milestones every child and youth experience during their journey from birth to careers.
