The Highlights:

DePaul University's Rinn Law Library seeks an innovative, service-oriented, and collaborative professional librarian for an exciting opportunity to serve as Reference and Government Resource Librarian.

The Reference and Government Resource Librarian will provide legal research assistance and instruction to law library users.

As part of a team of 4 professional librarians and related support staff, the librarian provides reference services, research support, and information resource training for the Law School's faculty, students, and staff.

This position has primary responsibility for overseeing the law library's federal and state government documents and resources.


What You'll Do:


  • Responsible for the overall management of the government documents division within the library's technical services department. Includes selecting, cataloging, canceling, and withdrawing items from both the federal and state depository programs. Including organizing and promoting the digital collection.
  • Participate in daily reference rotations, providing legal reference services inperson and remotely.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact to coordinate and provide reference and research support to the Legal Clinics
  • Provide legal research instruction in support of the Law School curriculum as necessary. Develop research tools and research guides [i.e., LibGuides and handouts] in law and related disciplines

What You'll Need:


  • M.L.S. /M.L.I.S. degree from an A.L.A. accredited institution (required)
  • J.D. from an A.B.A. accredited law school. (preferred)
  • Minimum of two years professional experience in an academic law library.
  • Knowledge or experience maintaining federal and /or state government documents or a strong demonstrated interest in developing expertise in this area.
  • Proficiency with basic legal research platforms (Westlaw and Lexis) and office software/technology.
  • Substantial knowledge of Anglo-American legal bibliography and current legal research techniques;
  • Experience providing research instruction;
  • Experience assessing and selecting collections in law and related fields.
  • Ability to conceptualize and implement processes and programs, both independently and as part of a team;
  • Demonstrated commitment to expanding skills and professional growth;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through speaking, writing, and presenting. Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed.
