The Operations & Maintenance Mechanical Technician will be required to operate and maintain the La Porte Power simple cycle facility.

This individual will work alongside of other La Porte Power maintenance OMTs and management staff to ensure that the facility equipment is operated and maintained in a safe manner and in accordance with Ethos Energy policies and procedures.

This equipment includes but is not limited to the Combustion Turbine Generators and auxiliary equipment.

The OMT OPS will enforce and adhere to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.


Responsibilities:


  • Installs, modifies, repairs, performs troubleshooting on site equipment.
  • Performs planned and unscheduled maintenance on a wide range of mechanical and hydraulic equipment common to power producing stations
  • Utilizes hand tools, power tools, and manual or electronic alignment equipment to maintain and perform repairs on various plant equipment.
  • As required, operates heavy mobile equipment (fork lifts, man lifts, carrydeck crane etc.)
  • As required, perform general welding repairs to plant piping, and other systems.
  • Monitor facility equipment and facilitate repairs as necessary to maintain site reliability.
  • Perform lockout tag out responsibilities according to Ethos Energy guidelines and procedures. Ensures all onsite work activities are performed within the proper lockout boundaries when needed.
  • Opens and closes circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.
  • Understands and enforces safe work practices for 480V, 4160V, and high voltage switchyard consistent with Ethos Energy electrical safety requirements. Supervises outside contractors in the performance of such work including the development of work scope and prejob safety briefings.
  • Properly uses electrical test equipment, PPE, and other similar tools.
  • Completes assigned preventative and corrective maintenance and updates all work orders in Maximo work management system.
  • Ensures continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) system PMs are completed on time and that the system is functioning correctly.
  • Performs contractor oversight and ensures Ethos safety polices are enforced.
  • Operates and maintains a simple cycle power generating facility equipment with mínimal guidance or assistance.
  • Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels to verify operating conditions.
  • Keeps O&M Manager informed of unusual conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations.
  • Uses facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within the required operating range.
  • Fully supports the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (Maximo). Performs CMMS data entry and work order closeout in a thorough and timely fashion.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant.
  • Updates drawings and prints as required.

Required Skills / Knowledge:


  • Excellent understanding of safety rules in an industrial setting
  • Ability to perform contractor oversight during outages to ensure schedule adherence and quality job performance by contractor groups
  • Must be familiar with standard mechanical principals used in an industrial facility
  • Strong mechanical, analytical, and solution driven skills
  • Excellent communication ability
  • Possess strong mechanical abilities
  • Ability to do the work of this position with mínimal supervision
  • Ability to schedule and balance priorities; and possess a strong adherence to deadlines
  • Strong ability to read and understand schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&ID's

Experience:


  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanic or Electrician working in an industrial environment
  • Power plant experience is preferred
  • Must be able to understand complex drawings and diagrams
  • Apprenticeship and/or formal training or equivalent experience is preferred

Education Requirements:


  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Possess state certification or equivalent qualification or license. Experience will be considered in lieu of certificates or licenses

Physical Requirements:


  • Willing and able to work overtime, holidays and weekends as needed on an emergency/short notice basis.
  • Willing and able to work in a loud/noisy, hot/cold, humid and dirty environments
  • Activities include frequent walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting, pushing, pulling
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Repetitive movement is required, such as twisting, bending, gripping, operation of hand tools
