    Description
    VOA-Minnesota Public Health


    As a VOA-MN Public Health Volunteer, your work will focus on reaching underserved individuals within one of two service areas.

    1) Affordable Housing for Older Adults and People with Disabilities, or 2) Community Justice VOA-MN offers over 800 units of affordable housing in Minnesota.

    Additionally, VOA-MN offers health and social service support to over 3,500 Minneapolis public Housing residents annually for individuals and families trapped in a cycle of crisis and housing instability due to extreme poverty, trauma, violence, mental illness, addiction, or other chronic health conditions, housing can entirely dictate their health and ability to lead stable, productive lived.

    Within Community Justice, VOA-MN offers one of the state's longest-standing and most successful relationship-based mentoring and supportive service programs for community members with a criminal record.

    VOA-MN supports women and men as they overcome the challenges and obstacles that a criminal record imposes, offering a support network that instills hope and imparts practical skills and strategies that are evidence-based and trauma-informed.

    As a VOA-MN Public Health Volunteer, you will gain valuable experience assisting participants in identifying and accessing health and well-being resources.

    In partnership with VOA-MN staff and those you will serve, this work will seek to address stark health inequities and provide hope to community members.

    Member Duties :

    For those selected to provide services with affordable housing, you will partner with VOA-MN's Community Health Workers and Social Service Providers to develop and implement health focused outreach and education, as well as offer support, resources, and follow up to residents (primarily older adults) who are facing chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

    The work associated within Community Justice will focus on serving individuals impacted by the criminal legal system.

    Based within a drop-in site for those seeking resources for employment, housing, and other needs, you will partner with staff to ensure that individuals have access to the health resources they need (education/awareness, insurance, primary care, mental health services).
