General Summary

This role is responsible for the effective operation, supervision, organization, and planning of fabrication. The Production Supervisor coordinates and prioritizes all functions which support or impact the production of products to ensure the timely production and delivery of projects, which satisfies the customer's expectations, the project budget, and the financial goals of the company. Reporting to the Operations Manager. Additional responsibilities will include assisting in evaluating current and proposed systems and procedures, recommending changes when necessary, and assisting in implementation of new processes.

Essential Functions/Major Duties:

Develop strategies and production plans to accommodate active projects and to ensure their on-time completion. This includes the review of upcoming projects and new orders incoming.

Evaluate and recommend changes in resources as necessary and to accommodate active and upcoming projects.

Measure and monitor indirect labor and actual production times versus estimated times for projects. Report on variances in excess of established limits.

Supervise and direct Production Shift Leads to ensure compliance with the production plan, goals, safety, and quality as well as proper task prioritization and resource management. This includes equipment, facility, and human resources.

Monitor all production activities to assure that safety, quality, and production standards

and plans are adhered to and enforced.

Develop, maintain, monitor, and report on performance indicators for the production departments.

Develop and maintain a culture of continuous improvement reporting on developmental planning and the results of those plans and trials.

Demonstrate efficient and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Prepare and manage approved annual departmental budgets and report on all deviations quarterly.

Develop and maintain an asset maintenance plan to ensure that proper preventative maintenance is performed on all production facilities and equipment as required by the equipment manufacturer.

Establish and maintain a sense of urgency for all tasks performed within the production department.

Develop and maintain a safe working environment be assessing the need for housekeeping, equipment repair/maintenance, and training in collaborating with the Safety Manager.

Prepare after action reports for non-conformances, accident or near-miss investigations, and deviations from production plans.

Monitor consumable inventory levels and increase or decrease quantities on hand to satisfy the requirements of the schedule.

Develop and/or maintain a production standards and procedures manual outlining the critical functions and task of the department.

Attend scheduling meetings prepared to report on the status of all projects active in the production department as well as concerns with maintaining commitments on upcoming projects.

Recommend the utilization of outsourced services as necessary.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors degree and/or 5 or more years of directly related experience.

Basic computer skills.

Three or more years of direct experience in a manufacturing/production environment. Direct experience with steel preferred.

Supervisory experience in a manufacturing desirable.

Good verbal communication skills.

Flexibility and skill competency to handle a wide variety of steel shop assignments in a 24-hour operation.

CWI preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Hours may exceed 40 hours per week especially during peak times.

Clean office in a manufacturing environment.

Working conditions are split between exposure to the elements of a Steel Shop environment and the elements of an office environment including exposure to ergonomic related issues due to repetitive use of computers.

At times work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, welding arcs, and loud noises. Work may also include some exposure to the extreme natural elements such as rain, snow, hot, and cold temperatures.

Conditions typical to a fabrication, coatings, and shipping operation.

Compensation

Salary/hourly wages consistent with market research on similar positions in Oregon.
