    Job Description

    DIRECTOR, INDIVIDUAL GIVING

    NEW YORK

Who We Are and What We Believe:

Founded in 1997, Bottom Line is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization with a mission to partner with degree-aspiring students of color from under-resourced communities as they get into college, graduate, and go far in life. We achieve this mission by providing one-on-one guidance during the college application process through college graduation and the successful launch of their careers.

Our vision is to dramatically transform urban communities by producing thousands of new career-ready college graduates.

When you join Bottom Line, you will find a rewarding, fast-paced, results-oriented environment. We build strong relationships with our students and with each other. We take our work seriously, and we know that a focus on data and metrics is integral to our continued success. Experts in our fields, we are driven by our mission and extremely proud of the work we do.

    What You Will Do:

With a key focus on individuals and relationships, the Director of Individual Giving is a key member of the Development Team. The director will have a $750,000 individual giving revenue goal that they meet through managing a portfolio of donors and prospects, cultivating new donors, and overseeing the planning and execution of cultivation events. This position is based in our New York office with some local travel required.

The New York region is entering our second decade of operations and we are positioning ourselves to serve ~2,500 students by FY30. To meet this goal, we must increase our annual operating budget by ~$3 million. As a member of the Development Team, the Director of Individual Giving will play a leadership role in this growth by cultivating and stewarding community members as individual donors to Bottom Line. You will manage the New York region's individual giving portfolio, support with planning and executing the annual benefit, and implement strong systems and processes to ensure a positive donor experience.

A strong candidate for the Director of Individual Giving is someone who derives joy in building authentic relationships with donors and actively leveraging those relationships in order to secure financial support for the organization. You are inspired to build the champions we need for our growth and thrive in one-to-one conversations with donors. You understand how to motivate major donors to give and how to nurture their engagement with Bottom Line. You are excited about the opportunity to build this portfolio for the New York regions and play a leadership role in building a new Major Gifts program.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Individual Giving & Portfolio Management – 70%

    • Conduct donor research and qualify new individuals for leadership positions and/or major giving

    Donor Relations & Stewardship – 20%

    • Collaborate with Manager of Donor Experience to develop and implement engagement and stewardship calendar for all individual donors
    • Plan and execute 3-5 donor events each year to attract, cultivate and steward high net worth individual donors
    • Collaborate with development and program staff to craft mailed and/or e-mailed communications to all individual donors

    Team Support (10%)

    • Work closely with the national finance and regional development teams to ensure all donations related to individual giving are accurately recorded
    • Provide support in developing and implementing a new framework for engaging students as representatives of Bottom Line to funders (via written stories, appearances at meetings, etc.); ensure that all students who participate feel prepared and empowered in their interactions
    • Support the department's efforts to embody principles of Community-Centric Fundraising
