Position Information

The Events Manager on UC Riverside's University Events team plans, implements, and serves as the primary point of contact for Chancellor, Provost, and Government Relations events. This position manages events including but not limited to employee recognition activities, campus social events, town halls, Chancellor's picnic, Faculty Scholars Day, VIP visits, community gatherings with key constituencies, Chancellor's Distinguished Lecture Series, and other events and meetings (in-person and online). This position works closely with the Associate Chancellor in planning Chancellor's residence events. The incumbent assists with the coordination and production of campus-wide public ceremonies and high-profile major events. The Events Manager works collaboratively with campus stakeholders, service providers, and vendors to create successful special events that will make a positive impression on UC Riverside's constituents and will enhance the University's image and attractiveness as a worthy focus of charitable giving and other forms of support.

The full salary range for the Events Manager position is $64,300 - $114,300 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $64,300 - $71,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Ability to work in diverse groups, including but not limited to students, staff, faculty, general public, production personnel, technical operators and performing artists. Demonstrated organizational and project management skills to work successfully with clients to produce high quality events that meet client needs and appropriately represent the campus; that is, for fundraising events, skills to provide excellent donor stewardship. Knowledge of principles and practices of volunteer recruitment, supervision, motivation and evaluation. Knowledge and skill to set and monitor work standards and protocols. Experience maintaining a high standard of productivity within a broad scope of responsibility despite frequent interruptions. Ability to complete large volume of diverse tasks efficiently, meeting established deadlines. Knowledge of crowd management, crowd safety protocols, security and emergency procedures related to small, medium and large scale gatherings. Skill in effectively meeting budget and time constraints. Highly developed interpersonal communication skills including political acumen and social perceptiveness. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with diverse populations with competing priorities. Highly developed judgment, decision-making and problem recognition/avoidance/resolution skills, including skill in determining those issues/problems that need to be brought to management's attention. Ability to give clear directives and use independent, rational judgment to make optimal decisions. Ability to effectively work with invited guests, donors, government officials and university VIPs. Thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts, principles and practices of event planning and public relations, including event design, organization and production. Proven ability to work on several tasks simultaneously. Skill at responding effectively to priorities and setting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the development of invitations, programs, promotional materials, and other event collateral. Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Knowledge of social, business and academic protocol. Thorough knowledge of the campus, its vision, mission, programs, policies, achievements and infrastructure. Knowledge of University policies and procedures relating to the use of University facilities; event management and presentation. Thorough knowledge and demonstrated experience in developing and producing webinars and/or virtual events using Zoom and other online meeting technologies. Experience with constituent database and/or customer relationship management software.
