    Summary of Position:

    The Academic Interventionist is responsible for supporting student achievement in the area of English Language Arts and Mathematics. The Interventionist provides individual or small group instruction to students who are struggling academically. This position is also responsible for monitoring, reporting, and communicating student progress and performance to the teacher, instructional facilitator and/or principal.

    Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties:
    1. Provides high quality instruction to individual students and small groups targeted to their individual needs
    2. Uses data, such as progress reports and assessment data, that show student strengths and/or weaknesses, assist in providing instruction to students, and bring their skills up to grade-level.
    3. Collaborates with teachers, administration, and families to help identify best practices for individual and small groups of students
    4. Uses identified research-based interventions that will support identified (as measured by district assessments/student work) individual student needs
    5. Assesses students and groups of students using various test results to help determine placement and progress
    6. Assist teachers and school teams with collecting, analyzing and using student data to drive classroom instruction and individual student programming.
    7. Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress (i.e. Panorama)
    8. Monitors the progress of his or her entire caseload assigned by the principal, maintains records and communicates with administrators, parents, and teachers
    9. Attends and participates in ongoing training sessions, data analysis meetings and workshops provided by the Office of Academic Services to support Multi-Tiered System of Support for academic achievement
    10. Provides input regarding the development, implementation, and evaluation of an intervention plan
    11. Works with teachers and principals to teach the intervention tactics
    12. Communicates with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress by preparing reports for key stakeholders regularly
    13. Manages and orders materials that are necessary for performing job functions
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    1. Ability to understand and hold self and others accountable for promoting and attaining the goals as outlined in Focus Forward 2025.
    2. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, textbooks, and government regulations. Ability to write reports and general correspondence. Ability, both orally and in writing, to present information effectively and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from individuals and groups of educators, administrators, parents, students, and the general public. Ability to always communicate using correct grammar.
    3. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to define problems, collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and to understand abstract and concrete variables. Ability to use available information and develop realistic long-term and short-term plans for curricular goals.
    4. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and parents through oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all corporation, state, and federal requirements. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on corporation and school objectives and student needs and abilities.
    Required Qualifications for Internal Candidates:
    1. A regularly appointed certified teacher in William Penn School District.
    2. Valid Pennsylvania Certification: Elementary K-6 or Grades Pre-4 and Grades 4-8
    3. Has demonstrated at least proficient instruction over the last three (3) years evidenced by their observation of teaching practice score from a formal observation.
    4. Has no unsatisfactory performance concerns documented in applicant's school and/or human resources personnel file from the past 18 months.
    5. Bachelor's degree.
    Required Qualifications for External Candidates:
    1. A regularly appointed certified teacher.
    2. Valid Pennsylvania Certification: Elementary K-6 or Grades Pre-4 and Grades 4-8
    3. Has demonstrated at least proficient instruction over the last three (3) years.
    4. Has no unsatisfactory performance concerns documented from the past 18 months.
    5. Bachelor's degree.
    Preferred Qualifications:

    Master's degree

    Condition of Employment:

    Current clearances as required by PA Department of Education:
    1. Copy of Act 33(PA Child Abuse History)
    2. Copy of Act 34(PA Criminal Background Check)
    3. Copy of Act 114 (FBI Fingerprinting Background Check)
    4. Copies of Act 168 (Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure Release) forms from prior employers.
    Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
    1. Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
    2. Indoor office environment is subject to frequent interruptions
    3. Pushing, moving and lifting objects with a strength factor of light work
    4. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of standard office equipment
    5. Clarity of vision at varying distances
    6. Verbal, auditory and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
    7. Sitting and standing for extended periods of time
    8. Frequent sitting, standing and walking
    9. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies
    10. Lifting objects with a strength factor of light work
    11. Occasional bending, reaching and stretching
    12. Occasional kneeling, crouching and squatting
    13. Occasional pulling, pushing
    Level of Compensation: Per WPEA Bargaining Unit
