- Teach multiple sections of a direct instruction reading intervention grounded in the science of reading. These interventions are aimed at our students who have word-level gaps in their foundational reading skills, which is about 75% of our incoming 9th grade class.
- Closely monitor student progress and reteach particular skills as necessary.
- Cultivate the belief that literacy is a tool for liberation and empowerment, and that students are capable of become stronger readers
- Valid certification in any of the following areas: Special Education, English Language Arts, Reading Specialist, Elementary or Middle Grades General Certification.
- Ability to form strong relationships with students and motivate them to push past struggle.
- A belief that literacy is an equity issue, and an understanding that their role will be to close the gaps that our students have in their foundational reading skills.
- A desire to help all of our students become grade-level readers

About the team
For this Reading Intervention Teacher position, you'll be working for : our high school in Wilmington, Delaware called Freire Charter School Wilmington (8th-12th Grade): Freire is all about Graduation x 2 – graduation from high school and from college. We challenge our students to achieve higher than they ever have before, and we give them the support they need to get there, including individualized college counseling. What you'll doFor this Reading Interventionist position, you'll leverage your strong relationship building skills to close literacy gaps for our 9th grade students. We know that literacy opens the doors of academic possibility for our students, many of whom come to high school several years behind in reading. You will play a key part in empowering our students to access all that is possible for them as readers In this role, you will use data about students' current reading levels to provide targeted instruction using a scripted direct instruction curriculum that meets students where they are and provides them with the support they need to access texts of all kinds.ResponsibilitiesYou possess an unwavering belief that our students are capable of success, and you both exude and cultivate our values of equity, love, critical thinking, and diversity. Minimum requirements*Effective for the school year, salaries for certified teachers entering their first year of teaching start at $55,000. The annual salary range for this role is $55,000 - $85,000. We offer a competitive salary based on your experience and qualifications. Our benefits package includes health, dental, vision, and more. Delaware employees are enrolled in Delaware's state pension plan (and may additionally choose to participate in the state's 403(b) retirement plan).
