    Incumbent will participate in an NSF Plant Genome Research Program funded project (

    Award Number:
    investigating the intersection of circadian clock activity and low temperature tolerance mechanisms in sorghum and foxtail millet. The laboratory is located off campus at the Plant Gene Expression Center in Albany, CA. The incumbent will work together with a postdoctoral researcher and collaborators at University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

    Incumbent's primary responsibility is to organize and execute large scale collection of tissue samples from sorghum plants exposed to various light and temperature conditions, send samples to collaborators for transcriptomic, metabolomic, and lipidomic analysis, and storage of the data sets from collaborators multi-omics analysis of these samples.

    In addition, the incumbent will contribute to generation and maintenance of transgenic plant lines testing cold- and circadian clock-regulated promoters.

    Tissue collection, sample preparation, sample storage, accurately recording experimental metadata, and shipping samples to collaborators for analysis.
    Plant propagation and maintenance, monitoring operation of growth chambers.
    Establishing and maintaining a database of samples and bioinformatic data sets.
    Collaboration to exchange materials, receiving and filing bioinformatic data sets from collaborators.
    Collecting plant phenotype data, determine plant genotypes.
    Oral and written presentation of data to lab members.
    Performance of routine lab chores shared with all lab members.
    Prior wet-lab research experience outside of the classroom.
    Excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as superior writing and communication skills.
    Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, and a desire to work in a fast paced laboratory atmosphere


    Education/Training:
    ~ Bachelor's degree in plant biochemistry, physiology, molecular biology or genetics or equivalent experience / training.

    Experience in standard molecular biology techniques, including PCR, DNA extraction, agarose gel electrophoresis, etc.
    Experience scripting in R and Python is desirable but not required

    Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement.

    This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs.

    The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $58,490.This is an 18-month, 50%, full-time (20 hours per week), limited (temporary) position that is eligible for UC benefits.

    This position is governed by the terms and conditions in the agreement for the Research Support Professionals Unit (RX) between the University of California and the University Professional and Technical Employees (UPTE).
