    Description

    Johns Hopkins University's Student Health & Well-Being portfolio supports disability services, health education, primary care, and mental health services for JHU students and learners across all nine schools within the University. Student Disability Services (SDS) coordinates academic, housing, dining, and transportation accommodations by applicable laws, and institutional policies and enhances understanding of disability as a cultural identity. Under the leadership of the Senior Director of Student Disability Services, Homewood Campus, the office provides a variety of services to undergraduate and graduate students with documented disabilities in Whiting School of Engineering (WSE) and Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS). Those services include: providing leadership and collaboration in framing a commitment to disability access and equity as an integral aspect of JHU's culture, advising and educating the campus community about disability and inclusive practices, and providing services, strategies, and accommodations to mitigate the barriers faced by individual disabled people. Overall, the goal is to ensure all students with disabilities have consistently inclusive and accessible experiences at Hopkins.


    We are currently recruiting for a Testing Center Manager to join the Student Disability Services team. The incumbent will be committed, adaptable, and enjoy working in a university climate that promotes cultural diversity, multicultural understanding, and social justice. The position will be based at the Homewood Campus but may infrequently travel to other campus locations. Experience working in a diverse and multicultural work environment is preferred. Flexible hours are required at key times in the academic year including evenings and weekends.


    Primary duties include responsibility for the day-to-day management of the test center, ensuring test takers experience a center that is acceptable for proper test delivery, communicating with students, faculty, and staff, including maintenance of multiple databases/spreadsheets, and resolution of sensitive matters responsibly. Must exercise independent judgment regarding the privacy of student information through clear and concise written and verbal communication. Will coordinate other administrative duties as needed including interpreting office and campus policies.

    The Testing Center (TC) Manager provides oversight of the Testing Center at SDS Homewood and will also manage exam scheduling, exam coordination, proctor hiring, and is the primary contact with faculty, students, and teaching assistants. The Test Center Manager is responsible for all test administration procedures, test integrity, and test center security plans. The TC Manager will also coordinate exam technologies including laptops, assistive technology, calculators, headphones, timers, and other supplies. The TC Manager is responsible for the testing center email and manages the exam module in AIM. The Testing Center Manager plays a lead role with the other exam coordinators university wide, establishing best practices and guiding future planning as well as problem-solving.


    The TC Manager also oversees the distribution and collection of LiveScribe pens. The position will report to the Senior Director of Student Disability Services, Homewood. This position works with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and other administrative offices to arrange exam accommodations for students with disabilities. The position will also take the lead in coordinating aspects of the SDS database, including running reports and inputting data to manage the exam accommodation process as well as leading the SDS university wide exam coordinator team in ensuring consistency and best practices are followed. The Testing Center Manager recruits, hires, schedules, trains, and supervises Graduate Assistant Proctors, both scheduled and on demand. The position also supports purchasing, budget management, and reception in conjunction with the Administrative Coordinator


    Specific Duties & Responsibilities
    • Manage and take the lead in coordinating the exam accommodations module in the SDS online data management platform.
    • Lead university wide exam coordinator working group to ensure consistency and best practice approaches to exam accommodation services.
    • Develop/maintain Standard Operating procedures, including policies for SDS exam accommodation services.
    • Manage testing center email and the exam module in AIM.
    • Manage and approve GA/proctor time in the system.
    • Communicate effectively and maintain positive, courteous, supportive, and professional working relationships with all levels of contacts. Contribute to the customer service-oriented atmosphere within the department and help with other functional areas when needed or requested.
    • Assist with database implementation and suggested modifications to enhance workflow.
    • Send out reminders to professors and students about upcoming exams; train faculty on using the testing module in AIM.
    • Work with professors to have Alternate Testing Contracts filled out in a timely manner.
    • Recruit, hire, schedule, train, and supervise Graduate Assistants related to test proctoring procedures.
    • Coordinate exam technologies including laptops, assistive technology, calculators, headphones, timers, and other supplies.
    • Confirm and track communication with students, faculty, TA, staff, and proctors.
    • Print copies of exams, and safely store and catalog exams to prepare for administering.
    • Locate and reserve additional testing locations for overflow students, and those requiring reduced distraction.
    • Compose, edit, type, and distribute various form letters and correspondences; create and maintain necessary files.
    • Request supply orders necessary to perform duties.
    • Perform tasks with a significant degree of independence, requiring knowledge of university resources and Homewood staff and facilities.
    • Assume administrative tasks, special projects, ad hoc reports, research data, and other related activities.
    • Develop and maintain information to generate reports, tables, charts, graphs, and PowerPoint presentations as needed.
    • Schedule appointments and exam rooms; type routine and specialized correspondence as well as reports; answer telephone, screen callers, and relay detailed messages.
    • Willingness and flexibility to take on other duties as assigned.

    Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Must be able to work efficiently, effectively, and professionally in a fast-paced environment interacting with senior-level executives and officials.
    • Ability to maintain a professional relationship with a wide range of contacts. Demonstrated interest in working with college students with disabilities.
    • Special knowledge and understanding of initiatives, goals, and objectives of Student Disability Services.
    • Ability to prioritize requests, independently resolve scheduling conflicts, and exam accommodations details.
    • Knowledge of SAP (purchasing/budgeting) or the ability to learn is essential.
    • Extensive experience with office technologies including databases, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Provide data entry and assist in the retrieval and organization of data via the AIM platform.
    • Must be comfortable and competent in learning new technology.
    • Must be an independent worker who is flexible, motivated, and able to handle multiple tasks; detail-oriented, and seeks clarification as needed.
    • Requires a self-starter and frequent interaction with internal and external constituencies.
    • Must uphold ADA compliance in interactions with students, faculty, and staff.
    • Correspond with faculty as needed regarding the facilitation of testing accommodations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to handle confidential information. Requires consummate skills in diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality.


    Minimum Qualifications
    • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
    • Minimum 4 years of related experience.
    • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree.
    • Experience in disability services in higher education or experience in a comparable setting, providing management and oversight while working on a variety of special projects and assignments is highly preferred.
