    This is a senior analytic leadership role charged with piloting the strategy, development and delivery of analytic capabilities, tools and efficient processes that serve multiple lines of business, products, and business segments.

    The Actuarial Product Center of Excellence team is a central hub for enabling leadership, best practices, research, support and training for actuarial product capabilities within Travelers Business Insurance segment.

    The individual in this role is expected to take ownership of driving change within Business Insurance Actuarial & Analytics and influence leaders up to the VP level across multiple departments as a critical pivot point for actuarial product capabilities in a consistent and transparent way to a complex organization with differing needs.

    Capabilities within the position's responsibility include the collaborative visioning, development, delivery and related data ecosystem for benchmark pricing tool capabilities, the actuarial assumption coordination of documentation and exhibits supporting the annual financial plan, and accurate and timely delivery of key profitability measurement metrics.

    The role provides the opportunity for the individual to use creativity and look for innovation in how the organization provides effective metrics and insight with transparency and clarity to a wide variety of users from the account underwriter to senior levels of management and doing this primarily through collaboration and influence of the matrixed resources available.

    The AVP Actuarial Product Center of Excellence is a part of the Actuarial Product team within Business Insurance Actuarial & Analytics organization.

    Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

    Marshalling strategy for capabilities, processes and tools that serve multiple lines, products and segments in a consistent and transparent way for a complex organization.

    Guiding collaboration across BIAA to identify high priority needs, gain consensus on direction and support for scope, determine how to resource them appropriately, and execute as assigned.

    Responsible for influencing the analytical advancement of rate adequacy methodology and providing analytic thought leadership across all lines of business.

    Collaborative visioning, development, delivery, and enhancement for benchmark pricing capabilities: Tools to meet the needs of underwriters
    Reporting tools for a variety of users for execution and monitoring
    Model effectiveness measurement practices across lines and business units
    An effective, accurate, and high quality data ecosystem to supply the capabilities
    Steering the strategy, development and delivery of analytic capabilities, tools, and efficient processes - examples include: Planning and forecasting - coordination of actuarial inputs into the processes
    Rate adequacy - coordination, tools & support
    Profitability reporting - tool, analytics, and update orchestration
    Manage a small team, provide guidance to fluid talent resources, and effectively conduct matrixed project and practice teams.

    Strategy:
    Assess, prioritize, influence and communicate strategic initiative options to senior leaders.
    Foster an environment for effective execution and completion of assigned strategic initiatives and projects.
    Be a leader of change and innovation.
    This position will lead assigned unit strategic initiatives and cross-unit initiatives and is expected to participate in Enterprise initiatives.

    Operational:
    Perform and lead actuarial and analytic analyses to solve business problems and apply judgment appropriately.
    Drive day to day execution within unit. Drive broad department initiatives.

    Promote efficiency and identify appropriate resource needs across primary working group, balancing additional effort against incremental lift gained from work.

    Make decisions independently in accordance with Segment practices.
    Consistently provide direction and review others' analytical work.
    Translate ambiguous business needs into analytical solutions.
    Provide support as necessary for initiatives across the Enterprise within the scope of influence.

    Communication:
    Communicates on a regular basis with staff, peers, business partners, and often with senior leaders.
    Proficient at tailoring communication of analysis, project results, and other business initiatives to audience.
    Proficient at communicating technical topics to non-technical audiences.
    Leads group discussions with multiple disciplines or responsibility levels.
    Proficient at creating formal written communication such as memos or presentations.
    Influences and collaborates with peers and partners to take actions to enhance business outcomes.

    Talent:
    Staff responsibilities are likely to include direct management of a team of managers and individual contributors.
    Acquisition, retention, and development of talent for assigned unit.
    Execute, communicate, and influence standards for talent development processes, including performance and personal development goals.
    Succession planning and talent assessment recommendations.
    Performance management including workforce planning.
    Support staff engagement in cross Enterprise initiatives.
    Mentor less experienced talent across the Enterprise.
    Identify training and skill development needs across assigned Segment and the Enterprise.
    Support recruiting efforts and candidate talent assessment efforts across the Enterprise.
    Minimum Qualifications
    Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience required.
    7 years of comprehensive quantitative analysis experience required.
    Project or people management experience required.
    Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge
    College degree in STEM related field.
    Associate Actuarial Credential preferred.
    Leadership experience.
    10 years of quantitative analysis experience.
    Strong understanding of insurance products and industry.
    Demonstrated ability in actuarial and quantitative analysis and statistical concepts.
    Exceptional influencing and/or consulting skills; able to build consensus among a diverse group of stakeholders.
    Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and translate complex information to senior leadership and non-technical teams.
    Strong PC skills (MS Office).
