- Obtain and record patient medical history.
- Operate ophthalmic equipment for patient's eye examination.
- Maintain the examination room clean, safe and organized.
- Perform special ophthalmic tests for patients as requested by Ophthalmologist
- Prepare for and assist with in-office procedures
- Explain pre and post-operative procedures to patients.
- Surgical assisting
- Follow and enforce OSHA regulations
- Provide clerical and administrative assistance when needed
- Other duties as assigned
- In the work environment, ophthalmic assistant duties don't often differ much from ophthalmic technician duties. For certification purposes, the content areas of the ophthalmic technician exam are more extensive than the content areas on the ophthalmic assistant exam.
- High school education or equivalent, or certified surgical technician.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with physicians and all medical professionals.
- Able to maintain and comply with patient confidentiality and integrity policy on all matters.
- Current certification in CPR.

About the Opportunity:
Ophthalmic Assistants are information gatherers and facilitators.
They will measurements and tests that provide the doctor with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment.
They also assist with documentation and patient services. Ophthalmic Assistants may assist with surgical procedures.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* b. Refractometry (measurements for the glasses prescription)
* c. Tonometry (measure eye pressure)
* d. Measure pupil size and reactivity
* e. Test and measure eye muscle function
* f. Visual field testing
* g. Corneal thickness measurement
* h. Corneal curvature measurement
* i. Corneal topography
* j. Retinal nerve fiber layer measurement
* k. Retinal thickness and topography
* l. May perform Fluorescein angiography
* m. May perform B-scan ultrasonography
