New Student Orientation welcomes all incoming Lynx and their families, by creating a supportive, inclusive and encouraging environment.
NSO assists our diverse student population by ensuring a smooth transition through the academic, personal and social adjustments to life at CU Denver.

**There is the opportunity for year round work after the end of orientation season for those who express interest and demonstrate excellent performance during the summer
Purpose:
Orientation leaders are a critical aspect of the New Student Orientation team. Their role is to welcome all incoming Lynx and their families by creating a supportive, inclusive, and engaging environment.
They assist our diverse student population by ensuring a smooth transition through the academic, personal, and social adjustments to life at CU Denver through their use of professional expertise and personal experience.
Overview of Position:
By assisting with the two-part orientation process (part 1:
Academic Success Day [virtual] and part 2:
Student Success [in person on campus]) CU Denver Orientation Leaders will perform their specific duties, outlined below, to develop proficiency in the following areas:
Engagement
Operations Assistance
Critical Thinking
Leadership
Specific Duties
Assist incoming students setting up their university email
Share your college experience:
why you chose CU Denver and what it makes it your home
Monitor NSO phone line and email
Help with projects assigned from the director, coordinator, and graduate assistant
Provide on-the-spot answers to questions from new students, family members, guests, and CU Denver volunteer staff and faculty by demonstrating knowledge of campus resources and locations
Engage incoming students and get them excited for life at CU Denver
Grow and develop your own sense of self and leadership style
Understand and explain rules and regulations as outlined by the Student Code of Conduct.
Report an incident or situation that is in violation or conflict with prescribed University policy.
Adapt to feedback and focused on continuous improvement
Exemplify understanding of leadership in interactions with guests and visitors to campus.
This includes but is not limited to speaking to new students and guests, walking new patrons to unfamiliar locations as well as understanding the needs of our new students by anticipating needs before they are asked
Utilize critical thinking skills to address issues in the moment, and utilizing resources to make sound decisions
Interact with people from different backgrounds while maintaining a friendly, flexible demeanor
Work effectively with a large amount of autonomy
Work collaboratively and authentically within a team of peers
Maintain critical thinking skills linked with a solution focused attitude
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a CU Denver
undergraduate
student
Must be currently enrolled in the Spring 2024 semester with at least 6 credits
Please note

If you are graduating in the Spring 2024 semester you are
not
eligible for this role
Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits in the Fall 2024 semester by April 30th, or Summer Semester
Must have at time of employment and maintain a
GPA:
2.5
Successful completion of a background check
Must be able to work a variable schedule day and/or evening hours, weekends, and certain holidays; with a collective effort to work around class schedules
Must be dependable, detail-oriented, flexible, organized, possess the ability to multi-task, and have a professional demeanor; or demonstrate a willingness to be taught how to demonstrate these skills
Must have solid written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and professionally via telephone and email; or demonstrate a willingness to learn how to communicate effectively
Must have excellent interpersonal skillsor demonstrate a willingness to learn how to interact interpersonally
Compensation:
Student will be paid $18.29 per hour
This position is eligible for sick leave under the Colorado Healthy Families & Workplaces Act
