Department Summary
The Division of Student Life supports the university's academic mission and strategic plan through comprehensive programs and services that promote and advance student learning and success while fostering an inclusive and vibrant campus community. Student Life includes four major portfolios, the Office of the Dean of Students, Experiential Learning & Engagement, Health & Wellbeing, and Division Administration. Key programs and departments within the division include but are not limited to University Health Services, Erb Memorial Union, Physical Education & Recreation, Parent and Family Programs, Major Student Events (Commencement, Homecoming, University Day), Fraternity and Sorority Life, Counseling, Health Promotion, Multicultural and Identity Based Support Services, Student Government Engagement & Success, Student Conduct and Community Standards, and Support for Students in Crisis and Students of Concern.
The Erb Memorial Union (EMU) is a department of the Division of Student Life. The EMU is a multifaceted auxiliary service that employs over 90 professional staff and 400 student staff, and serves over 15 thousand daily users during the academic year. The EMU welcomes students, faculty, staff, the community and visitors to campus, and its mission is to provide learning experiences and opportunities for personal growth in an open, inclusive, and resource-rich community where students and staff collaborate to inspire and sustain extraordinary programs and services that promote diversity and social interaction. The EMU is student centered and is operated in collaboration with a student Board, who are actively involved in determining the character and scope of the department and approve the budget recommendations of all EMU services and programs.
The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) focuses on two main areas: Resource Center and Student Activities Board
• The CSI Resource Center is a unique collaborative program between the EMU and ASUO. Both ASUO student organizations and other UO student organizations will have access to advising, training, and resources in a space which they can call home. Our Vision is to be a hub of information and resources where student organizations can create, build, and connect students through fun events, services and traditions.
• The Student Activities Board, through multiple teams, creates events that are desired by the UO student population and provide students with opportunities for social and intellectual development. Event content will vary from themed parties to intimate concerts; they will include long standing traditions and adaptive new creations all to fill the needs of UO Students.
Position Summary
The Associate Program Director for the Center for Student Involvement has primary responsibility for developing, leading, and maintaining advising and support services for all affiliated student organizations as they build a flourishing community and develop professional skills. Responsible services include but are not limited to facilitating new club creation, annual club renewal, advising student organization leaders, oversight of equipment checkout, management of facilities, development of risk mitigation strategies documents and training, and creating professional development curriculum for student organization leaders and potential leaders to grow transferable skills. In this role, the individual will have a high level of decision making that has the potential to impact campus wide and community audiences. The position is responsible for oversight of budget, implementation of contracts, and supervision staff. This position will hire, direct, schedule, evaluate, train, disciple, and manage the activities of officers of administration, classified staff, student employees, interns, and volunteers. The Associate Program Director is a staff member of the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) and reports to the CSI Program Director. Additionally, they will serve as a resource and active member of the Erb Memorial Union staff.
This position serves as the program lead in the absence of the Program Director or at the request of the Program Director.
Must be willing to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
Minimum Requirements
Master's degree
· Three years of professional experience in with student organizations and/or managing student programs and services in a higher education setting, OR five years of relevant experience in a related field of higher education.
· One year of experience supervising professional staff.
· One year of professional experience in event planning and execution.
· One year of professional budget management experience.
Professional Competencies
Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaboration, and relationship building skills to engage a diverse audience. · Excellent presentation and public relation skills. Ability to give public presentations and adjust communication for diverse audiences.
· Knowledge of and experience with risk evaluation and mitigation strategies as they relate to student organization activities.
· Ability to create workshops, presentations, tutorials, informational documents, and other training tools for primarily a college student audience.
· Ability to deal with crises and manage sensitive information.
· Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously while meeting deadlines effectively
· Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment. ·
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in student affairs, educational leadership, higher education administration, college student personnel, or related field.
· Knowledge of and experience with risk evaluation and mitigation strategies as they relate to student organization activities.
· Strong understanding of student development theories.
· Experience with creating workshops, presentations, tutorials, informational documents, and other training tools.
