    Description

    Pacific Construction Group is hiring a Summer Intern for our week Summer Program This is an amazing opportunity for College Students entering their Senior Year to grow in their skills and knowledge of the Construction Industry at a regional General Contractor Firm currently building over +$130,000,000 in projects involving Industrial, Medical Office, Retail, Institutional, and Office.

    Pacific Construction Group is committed to developing Young Leaders in the Construction Industry...especially in a market where a large portion of the Construction Workforce will retire over the next 10 years.

    Qualifications

    The requirements are that the applicant is currently attending college and studying for some type of Construction Management Degree or has a great deal of interest in committing to the Construction Industry in a role at a General Contractor Firm. We also require a minimum 3.5 GPA to qualify for the program.

    10 Week Program Outline:

    The intern will leave the 10-week program with a high-level understanding of the Construction Industry after immersion in each department focused around the 4 goals listed below. Each departmental mentor will design their portion of the program around these focus points.

    1. Education: Assign a mentor in each department to educate and support the intern in their department roles and responsibilities. The mentors will provide education opportunities to teach basic level understanding of each department.

    2. Feedback: Opportunities for regular check-ins and feedback sessions to ensure the intern's learning objectives are being met.

    3. Exposure: The intern should get a hands-on feel for the tasks and responsibilities in each department with real-world tasks provided by the department mentor. The intern will also attend industry-related events, seminars, and networking opportunities.

    4. Autonomy: In each department, the intern will be provided with opportunities that allow the intern to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world scenario. This information will inform their ultimate report that will be due at the end of the 10-week program.

    Weeks 1-2: Introduction to the Construction Industry

    1. Overview of the construction industry and its various sectors.

    2. Introduction to the company's history, values, and organizational structure.

    3. Site visits to ongoing projects for exposure to real-world construction projects.

    4. Safety training and understanding of the importance of safety in the construction field.

    Weeks 3-4: Project Estimation and Bidding

    1. Training on the basics of project estimation and cost analysis.

    2. Exposure to the process of bidding for construction projects.

    a. Communication and coordination with subcontractors.

    b. Generate pre-construction RFI's.

    c. Learn how to read plans.

    d. Review subcontractor estimates.

    e. Understand cost breakdowns and budgets.

    f. Create marketing brochure.

    3. Follow the estimating process through at least one project.

    Weeks 5-6: Project Management

    1. Overview of project management processes.

    2. Shadowing project managers to understand how schedules are created and managed.

    3. Attend OAC meetings and PM/Operations Team weekly meeting.

    4. Exposure to other Project Management tasks as follows:

    a. Change orders.

    b. Procore/Bluebeam/Smartsheet/Microsoft Project.

    c. RFI's/Submittals.

    d. Prime contract and contractor obligations.

    e. Subcontracts and subcontractor scope.

    f. Budget management.

    g. Problem solving and client management.

    5. Basic understanding of project closeout including final inspections, client handover, and closeout documentation.

    Weeks 7-8: On-Site Experience

    1. Hands-on experience on construction sites under the supervision of our General Superintendent.

    2. Exposure to and understanding of Superintendent tasks as follows:

    a. Basic construction equipment and machinery.

    b. Budget/schedule communication with subs, PM and ownership.

    c. Learn to read plans and staking.

    d. Safety.

    e. High-level understanding of how buildings are constructed.

    f. Shadow city & deputy inspections.

    Weeks 9-10: Project Accounting & Final Closeout

    1. Exposure to and understanding of Project Accountant tasks as follows:

    a. Project billing process.

    b. Lien waivers/Lien rights.

    c. Sub billing.

    d. Fund Control.

    e. Retention and closeout.

    2. The final week will be spent in preparation of a comprehensive report summarizing the intern's experiences, insights, and recommendations for PCG's improvement.

    3. The program will end with a final presentation to the management team highlighting the report and including key takeaways from the internship.
