- Oversee installation, maintenance, modification, calibration and repair of electronic instrumentation and access control systems; exercises lead responsibility for others on a project basis, or as assigned.
- Program access control badges, maintain access control system data, and field devices.
- Troubleshoots fire alarm systems. Networks with contractors for required preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment and systems.
- Detects causes of electronic failures. Interprets and ensures compliance with established codes, calculates data necessary for wiring instrument systems and requisitions supplies and materials needed to complete tasks.
- Provides technical advice and assistance and acts in a supervisory capacity.
- Inspects instrumentation and equipment to determine operating conditions and needed repairs and modifications.
- Performs emergency and routine field servicing of complex electronic systems.
- Assesses plants needs for surveillance equipment, control access, and safety systems. Once needs are determined, ensures work is completed by servicing vendor in accordance with Pinellas County contractual and purchasing guidelines.
- Arranges for repairs and serves as technical review specialist for work completed by outside vendors performing work on county systems and equipment.
- Performs related work as assigned or required.
- Knowledge of standard tools, methods, theories, material, and practices of the electronics trade.
- Knowledge of electronics theory and equipment and electronics maintenance and repair practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of operating characteristics, capabilities, and limitations of computer equipment and routine computer operations and terminology.
- Skills in the use of tools and equipment used in the electronics field.
- Skills in troubleshooting automated systems and isolating breakdown causes.
- Ability to relate technical information in a manner understandable to vendors, contractors, superiors, and the public.
- Ability to conduct tests, analyze results, take corrective steps, and apply knowledge of electronic theory and troubleshooting procedures.
- Ability to interpret and work from technical sketches and blueprints and locate and define defects in equipment.
- Ability to use a computer to complete assignments, track work, prepare communications, and produce reports.
- Three years of highly automated computer-based electronics instrumentation installation, maintenance, and repair experience; or
- An Associate's degree or two-year technical degree in directly related coursework plus one year of highly automated computer-based electronics instrumentation installation, maintenance, and repair.
- or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- A valid Florida Driver License, in good standing, will be required in order to travel to assigned work sites.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Are you an electronics savvy person who speaks the language of surveillance equipment and systems, security controls, and fire alarm systems? If so, Pinellas County's Utilities Department (Financial Services) has a variety of site security and safety systems for an Electronics Specialist 1 to support.
Our team oversees contracted services to maintain and operate security systems, safety systems and physical security at several sites. This is advanced technical work with supervisory responsibility in the installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of electronic instrumentation, access control equipment, fire alarm systems, as well as physical security of different sites (responsible for coordinating maintenance, repairs, and/or installation of fences, gates, and gate operators). Work performed is typically supervisory or covers large projects impacting several departments and at a higher technical level requiring more independent judgment. The employee may also serve as technical advisor to engineering and technical support staff, contractors, vendors, and others.
