    **Description**

    We are currently looking for School Cafeteria Cook to assist in the preparation of meals in the kitchen under the guidance and direction of the Lead Cook and Executive staff. The Cook will perform routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients, so that food can be prepared according to recipes. A great cook will be quick, diligent and have the ability to follow instructions and safety rules in the kitchen. The Cook will also be in charge of ensuring that the kitchen and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained. To be successful in this job, the candidate will need thorough experience with hot and cold food preparation.

    **Essential Duties and Responsibilities**

    **While adhering to all recommended social distancing and safety protocols, the Cook will:**

    Support the kitchen team in the preparation, cooking, and service of fresh meals for the school community

    Must have culinary background experience in preparing large volumes of food

    Play an active role in the daily food service for students and staff during meal times (breakfast, lunch, and snack)

    Ensure a friendly and welcoming environment for students and staff

    Ensure compliance with all sanitation, health and safety standards by maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment

    Follow menus, cooking, and safety standards

    Clean, sanitize and maintain kitchen

    Communicate with staff and management

    **Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements**

    Minimum of 4 + years of experience in related food services role

    Experience in a commercial kitchen at an academic institution is preferred, but not required

    Strong understanding of cooking methods, ingredients, kitchen equipment, and related processes

    Extremely dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and a strong communicator.

    Ability to lift, carry, and push supplies and boxes up to 50 pounds

    Possession of the New York City Food Protection certification.
