    Description
    Overview A job opening for a laboratory technician is available at the Department of Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University. The successful candidate will work in a very active, enthusiastic, and highly dynamic pre-clinical translational research laboratory. We are looking for a highly motivated individual. **Job Duties:** - Making general laboratory reagents (e.g. buffer preparation) - Laboratory stock maintenance and ordering - General laboratory maintenance - Maintain breeding colonies of genetically engineered mice - Collect mouse breeding colony tissue samples and processing for genotyping The applicant should be eager to expand their role to include: - Preparation of small animals for anesthesia and surgery - Daily post-operative animal care - Small animal behavioral testing - Small animal transcardial perfusions - Fresh tissue dissection and techniques - In vitro culturing of either cell lines or primary cell cultures Although hours are expected to be Monday to Friday (8.30am - 5.00pm), some weekend work may be required. **Required Education & Experience:** - Bachelor's degree in a related field - General laboratory skills - Ability to keep accurate records - Data entry using Microsoft Excel - Ability to work in a diverse environment **Preferred Education & Experience:** - Master's degree **Position Details:** **Department:** Surgery **Employment Type:** H- Hourly **Restricted Status:** Yes **FTE:** 0.5 **Exemption Status:** Non-Exempt
