    The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology is in search of a part-time Lab Technician to join Dr. Lasek's lab.

    Position Summary:

    The chosen candidate will work part-time performing rat and mouse studies of alcohol consumption. Additionally, the candidate will perform histological procedures, such as immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization on rat and mouse brains.

    Other jobs include but are not limited to:
  • Ordering supplies
  • Inventory and maintenance of laboratory supplies
  • Routine maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Monitoring and disposal of biohazardous materials and chemical hazards
  • Organization of the laboratory environment
    • Core Responsibilities:

    1.) Rat and mouse studies of alcohol consumption

    2.) Perform tissue processing, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, and microscopy

    3.) General lab management:
  • book keeping for all lab materials including chemical and animal inventories
  • place order for supplies for all lab personnel
  • responsible for IACUC and chemical inspections
  • attending DAR and chemical training and meetings
  • routine maintenance of lab equipment
    • Minimum Hiring Standards:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field is required
  • Experience working with laboratory animals (mice and/or rats) is required
  • Performing tissue histology and microscopy is preferred
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as an hourly employee at VCU
