Position Summary

  • The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) Coordinator/Compliance Officer reports to the Director for International Students and Global Scholar Services and is responsible for ensuring institutional compliance with DHS and DOS immigration regulations for students with F and J nonimmigrant status through mandatory SEVIS data reporting. This position is responsible for providing international student and scholar visa advising services, orientation, trainings, and implementing retention strategies and programming to meet the needs of the international student population.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, International Studies/Business or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with SEVIS database.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity addressing issues of concern facing students from diverse backgrounds in higher education and campus support services.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills; ability to complete multiple tasks and high volume of work; mature, professional attitude and appearance; openness to continuing learning and upgrading of skills.
  • Capacity to effectively collaborate and engage students, faculty, staff and administrators.

Certification/Licensure Required

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Two years of experience in program administration in an international education office working with international students, and with direct experience of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
  • One year of experience working as a Designated School Official (DSO) for a college or a university.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of tools (e.g. PowerPoint, Word, Excel).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in the Banner system (or similar transferable skill).
  • Experience in higher education, preferably in an admission, recruitment, or student affairs
  • Experience studying or living abroad.
  • Familiarity with one or more foreign language(s).
