- Clinical Practice:
- Offers independent care to a specific patient population; acts as a clinical expert, integrates evidence-based practices, and fulfills specific unit roles (such as ICU arrest team, ED triage, etc).
- Acts as the primary coordinating nurse, collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to plan and deliver patient-centered care.
- Provides clinical guidance to fellow healthcare professionals.
- Service/Quality:
- Assists in team development and the evaluation of the Relationship-Based Care model; contributes to improving care methods.
- Participates in collecting data related to care outcomes.
- Contributes to Performance Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice, or research at the unit level.
- Ensures compliance with standards and regulatory activities at the unit level.
- Unit Operations:
- Supports charge nurse decisions and fulfills the charge nurse role when required.
- Adheres to the AACN guidelines for Healthy Work Environment and promotes a positive work environment.
- Professional Development:
- Acts as a preceptor, coach, and mentor to new nurses and students.
- Participates in training sessions and educational activities independently.
- Patient Safety
- Addresses observed risks to patient safety.
- Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management.
- Identifies potential risks and communicates them to the relevant authorities.
