The Associate Director (AD) is responsible for the leadership and well-being of the Evacuation Systems engineering organization, as well as creating and executing the roadmap to position their team to output world-class products for years to come.

Day-to-day tasks will vary due to the need to work across all domains of the organization, but the common thread is providing support and solutions to current and predicted future issues which engineers on their assigned product line, domain, or program will face.

This Phoenix, AZ based role currently leads 4 direct reports with a total team size of 50 onsite engineers plus an additional 50 global partners.

new product, R&D, sustaining (including obsolescence), and value engineering. Primary Responsibilities:


  • Motivate, inspire, and drive engineering teams to drive a culture of excellence and pride of ownership.
  • Lead, mentor, coach, and guide engineering managers.
  • Own the execution of longterm strategy and engineering direction.
  • Work crossfunctionally across multiple teams and departments identifying any hurdles to progress and improving internal and crossfunctional communications and processes.
  • Work with Product Management to map product roadmaps to engineering schedules.
  • Summarize and present key information, and influence and drive decisions at the executive level.
  • Drive the engineering teams to be accountable for ontime delivery of quality features and products.
  • Communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences.
  • Incorporate direction of technological innovation and use that to inform work decisions.
  • Investigate and analyze complex problems as they arise.
  • Travel up to 25% domestic and international (India and Europe).

Qualifications/ Experience Needed:


  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience
  • Technical degree (ie mechanical, systems or similar)
  • Engineering background
  • People management experience
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position
