    Summary

    Title Behavior Intervention Counselors (BIC) will take a leadership role in the development and implementation of the school's MTSS-Behavior framework. Primary duties include consulting with teachers and other staff members on individual student behavior needs and the implementation of evidence-based classroom systems and interventions to promote behavioral success. In addition to introducing interventions and mental health-related trainings and concepts to school staff, the BIC will conduct behavioral assessments and ongoing progress monitoring to determine the effectiveness of interventions. All BIC job tasks will relate directly to student behavior and environmental factors affecting student behavior.

    The Behavior Intervention Counselor has clinical expertise in typical and atypical child behavior and development, and has experience applying clinical skills in the school setting. The Behavior Intervention Counselor has the ability to support school staff in building their core behavior and social emotional learning program, as well as tiered behavior interventions. In addition to promoting the social emotional learning and behavioral skill development of school staff, the Behavior Intervention Counselor works directly and aggressively with identified students and their teachers to adopt behaviors leading to increased student engagement as measured by increased attendance and decreased disciplinary referrals. This position is under the supervision of the building principal and Student Services Management.

    Essential Duties:
    • Works as a member of the team with school counselors, social workers, nurses, and psychologists to implement a comprehensive student services program
    • Consults with school administrators about staff development and support needs; makes recommendations and leads efforts focused on improving student's social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes

    Education and Experience:

    Minimum
    - Masters degree in school counseling, school social work, school psychology, clinical psychology, social work, or community counseling
    - Three years of experience working in school or clinical environment

    Desirable

    - Dual licensure/certification in school and clinical areas
    - Trained in evidence-based intervention & consultation models
    - Knowledgeable of trauma-informed practices

    Licensing / Certification Requirements:

    - NC DPI licensed or license eligible as a school counselor, school social worker, or school psychologist; or
    - NC board licensed clinical social worker, professional counselor, psychological associate, psychologist
