Job Summary and Qualifications:


As a Lead Surgical Technologist, you will accept overall responsibility for a designated surgical area, and will facilitate the safe and effective completion of invasive surgical procedures.

You will ensure all equipment, supplies, and instruments are available and operational, accurate, and organized. You will also train and mentor other staff and serve as a role model.

  • You will assist and oversee tasks performed by Surgical Technologists to ensure that the unit is provided with the supplies, instruments, and necessary equipment needed for procedures
  • You will oversee the functioning and troubleshooting of equipment
  • You will prepare for each procedure and/or surgery and demonstrate proper positioning of the patient on the operating room table
  • You will maintain a clean operating room suite for patients
  • You will assist in the maintenance of instruments and equipment by proper utilization, cleaning, care and sterilization
  • You will anticipate the surgeon's needs during surgery, and obtain preferences from physicians regarding procedures
  • You will be responsible for ensuring supplies and equipment have been ordered, as well as restocking unused sterile supplies and equipment
  • You will assist with operating room turnover

What qualifications you will need:

Experience

  • 3 years of recent experience as a Surgical Technician with demonstrated competency in multiple inpatient surgical specialties (experience waived if certified)
  • Expertise in General, Gynecology, Orthopedic, Neurology, Urology, or Cardiovascular preferred
Education

  • Associate's degree from an accredited Surgical Technologist school OR hospital conducted onthejob training with proof of program content and completion
Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David's Healthcare policy
  • Current certification as a Surgical Technician within 180 days of graduation if hired after September 1, 2009 per Texas Board
