    Job Description:


    The Grant Assistant will assist with the day-to-day functions of grant programs the Crime Commissions is participating in including but not limited to Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, Bureau of Justice Assistance, Office for Victims of Crime, Office on Violence Against Women, Office of Violence Prevention, and Community-based Juvenile Services Aid.

    Job duties


    Learn formal procedures and guidelines necessary for agencies to apply for federal funds and matching grant funds for projects; includes developing instruction and application forms.


    Assist in maintaining status information on all grants to programs and projects as required for control through reviews of audit reports and ensure follow-up action is taken.


    Prepare grant offer and acceptance contracts, monitor funds for grants and prepare contracts with sub-grantees, ensuring compliance with Special Conditions to grants and advance funds.

    Advise local governmental units about grant funds availability and grant applications' approval or disapproval.

    Support the Grant Review Committee by clarifying guidelines and overseeing the recording of minutes.

    Provide assistance in evaluating projects or equipment funded by grants, including forecasting future fund requirements.


    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Independently managing program administrative functions and making autonomous decisions; Applying knowledge of a wide range of rules, procedures, guidelines, or operations; Conducting in-depth analysis and judgment to interpret and adapt guidelines, regulations, and precedents for specific grant programs; Determining and explaining policies, procedures, and processes relevant to the grant programs to various stakeholders; Evaluating policies, procedures, and processes and applying them to make determinations; Processing grant payments accurately; Managing contacts lists, financial report tracking; providing technical assistance to grantees regarding online grant management systems; maintaining and monitoring program narrative and data tracking; conducting grant management training; compiling and updating operational and training manuals; handling grant applications and documents from grantees; disseminating important information; conducting grantee communications; participating in meetings; assisting in formal closeout procedures.

    Requirements / Qualifications:


    Minimum Qualifications:

    High school education plus four years of significantly related work experience; or a Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to the above requirements.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Experience in understanding, implementing, explaining, and applying complex rules, regulations, and laws. Previous grant management experience is highly preferred. Education in accounting, finance, and/or law is highly preferred. Familiarity with DOJ grants.


    Other:

    This role involves travel. Therefore, the incumbent must possess a valid driver's license or other reliable transportation.


    Consistent and punctual attendance is essential.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Knowledge:
    General accounting and budgeting best practices and procedures. Federal and state rules and regulations related to accounting and budgeting. Formats used in written business communications. English grammar, spelling, and composition needed for correspondence. Computer software necessary to carry out job responsibilities. Types and uses of office equipment. Office management principles, methods, and procedures. Established policies, procedures, practices of the Nebraska Crime Commission.

    Skills:

    Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and interpret business processes. Prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment utilizing input from others.

    Establish and maintain effective, professional working relationships with team members, employees, customers, and stakeholders.

    Computer Skills:

    Knowledge of computer systems, including time and attendance, information systems, financial systems, policies, and regulations.


    Ability to use the following programs:

    MS Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, OneNote, ShareFile, DocuSign, SharePoint, Zoom, WebEx, PowerPoint, and other grant management specific software programs.

    Experience with an ERP System is beneficial. Ability to create mail merge documents, maintain contact lists and newsletters.

    • Ability to read, understand, interpret, and apply rules, administrative policies, and program guidelines.

    Apply knowledge of rules, procedures, guidelines, or operations to resolve various problems.

    In-depth analysis and judgment to interpret and adapt guidelines and regulations to specific work problems and determine appropriate actions.

    Work independently, understand tasks without explicit direction, and request guidance when needed.
