The newly created Nebraska Broadband Office located within the Department of Transportation (NDOT) has an exciting opportunity for an Accountant II to join our team Under Governor Pillen's leadership, the Broadband Office was formed to create a more transparent, flexible, and proactive response for Nebraska's broadband needs.
(If unable to fill at the Accountant II level, will consider applicants at the Accountant I level. Pay rate for this classification is $17.216 per hour).

Job Duties:
Minimum Qualifications:
Accountant I:
Post high school coursework or vocational education in accounting, finance, business administration or related field OR experience performing accounting functions including interpreting and analyzing financial data.
Accountant II:
Associates degree in accounting, finance, business administration, statistics or related field and experience with accounting/financial management systems OR 2 years' experience with professional accounting procedures including developing and modifying accounting/financial management systems.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field. Demonstrated experience with MS Office with advanced skills using Microsoft Excel. Experience with federal grants accounting. Experience and appreciation of collaborative, team-based work. Interest in continuous learning and growth. Experience in state government accounting or grants management a plus.Other: Valid driver's license required. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), practices and standards; budgeting techniques and methods; record keeping methods; federal and State laws and regulations applicable to accounting/finance operations.
Skill in:
analysis and development of plans to prevent and/or address challenges; compiling data from multiple sources into a single, comprehensive documents or reports.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and expertise with Excel. Excellent written and verbal communication.Ability to:
manage time and competing priorities; learn and apply the principles and concepts of specific agency programs, policies and operating details of an accounting system; prepare a budget; design reports and financial statements; provide financial and budget recommendations; effectively communicate to exchange and elicit information and explain complex information to various audiences.
