Position Summary:

Performs Radiologic Procedures as ordered by an attending physician and associated duties to maintain high quality standards and an efficient department.

Performs duties in support of the Medical Center mission to ensure the highest quality of patient care in an economically sound and efficient manner.

This position serves all ages of patients.

Accountabilities/Criteria

*Performs Radiologic Procedures, including portables and trauma, as ordered by physician or the Radiologist in accordance with department procedures.

*Performs fluoroscopic and other procedures according to standard protocols, under the supervision and direction of radiologist and other physicians.

*Produces quality radiographs according to department Routine Procedure Protocols, utilizing proper exposure factors and positioning.

Documents technical factors of each procedure in accordance with departmental procedures.
Develops films as needed to ensure patients examinations are completed in a timely manner.

*Accurately marks each film with the correct patient information from the I.D. card in accordance with department quality control standards.

*Processes each cassette on the radiographic processor and ensures that it is reloaded with the correct film size and type as observed by coordinator.

*Places the loaded unexposed film cassettes in the proper area for reuse as observed by coordinator.

*Participates in the Quality Control program of site, as evidenced by cassette cleaning etc.

*Makes copies of x-ray film upon request and places in appropriate bin for pick-up.

Accurately positions lead markers on the radiograph to identify the position a film was taken and correctly identifies right and left side of the patient as observed by supervisor and through quality control.

Positively identifies all patients before performing an examination as evidenced by lack of incident reports.

Utilizes Radiology Information System (RIS) to properly track procedures, as evidenced by appropriate billing and transcription.
Maintains knowledge of proper EMTALA policies and procedures, as evidenced by maintenance of logs and other related materials.
Explains procedures to patients and staff, using words and explanations which are clear, understandable and appropriate to the subject and to the listeners level of knowledge and experience; evaluated by supervisors observation.

*Obtains Last Menstrual Period on all women of child bearing age as evidenced by documentation.

*Maintains knowledge of and practices proper radiation safety techniques to reduce radiation exposure to self, technologists, patients and the public, according to ALARA regulations.

*Prepares room and equipment for requested examinations according to departmental policy and procedures.

An answers telephone, schedules patients for appropriate studies, takes messages and provides routine information to callers promptly and courteously.
Maintains professional appearance as evidenced by compliance with departmental dress code.
Provides practical instruction and supervision to students with respect to equipment, technical factors and patient positioning.
Provides notification of absence or tardiness according to area policy.
Maintains licensure and certification as required by Job Requirements and provides documentation.
Maintains confidentiality of patient information, employee information and other confidential information covered by regulations or professional ethics.
Speaks on the telephone in a courteous, professional and service oriented manner at all times. Willingly offers assistance to other parties and communicates in a positive, helpful and friendly manner, using appropriate tone of voice.
Attends meetings and participates on committees as required.

Job Requirements

Education and Training:

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology required.

Experience:

Graduate of a 2-year school of Radiologic Technology.

Skills:

Operate computer and patient imaging equipment.

Registration, Licensure and/or Certifications:

CPR
Registered in Radiologic Technology or

Must be registry eligible at time of hire and become registered within guidelines established by Department.

Physical Demands and Sensory Requirements:

Heavy physical effort; lift/carry up to 50 lbs.

Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking

Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients

Lifts equipment/supplies

Manual dexterity

Pushes/pulls, moves/lifts heavy equipment/supplies

Transports patients in wheelchairs

Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching

Hearing sensitivity bilaterally within normal limits db HL) aided/non-aided and/or speech discrimination within functional limits for telephone and personal communication.

Visual acuity of 20/60 in at least one eye (with/without correction)

Color perception

Ability to communicate verbally

Working Conditions:

Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens

May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases

Subject to electrical and radiant energy hazards

Exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents

Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment

Exposed to odorous chemicals and specimens

Exposed to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals

May be exposed to toxic chemicals

Exposed to explosive chemicals, gases and low level radiation

Subject to hazards of flammable, explosive gases

Subject to injury from moving parts of equipment

Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness)

Handles emergency or crisis situations

Occasionally subjected to irregular hours

Requires judgment/action which could result in death of patient

Extensive use of computer equipment

Operates or rides in a motor vehicle
