Loss of licensure and certification may result in removal from this position.

    Duties Description Psychiatrists are essential to providing mental health services to the people OMH serves. They provide comprehensive and recovery oriented psychiatric treatment services built on principles of effective, measurable, and accountable care. As medical doctors, psychiatrists are responsible for ensuring that all services are integrated to promote mental and physical health and recovery. Additionally, since psychopharmacology has become an integral component of modern mental health treatment, psychiatrists serve as primary prescribers. Assistant Psychiatrists assist in providing psychiatric care and treatment services to individuals under the direct supervision of a licensed psychiatrist or physician. Psychiatrists 1 diagnose, treat, prescribe, and provide psychiatric care and treatment services to assigned individuals under the direction of a higher-level psychiatrist or physician. Psychiatrists 2 independently diagnose, treat, prescribe, and provide psychiatric care and treatment services to assigned individuals; provide clinical supervision and guidance to lower-level psychiatrists, physicians, and/or other medical providers; and may manage care and treatment services for an assigned facility, unit, or program.NOTE: 1. In order to be eligible for appointment and to maintain employment, you cannot be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of the Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program).     Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee's employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.Additional Comments: This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $3,087.The Office of Mental Health offers a competitive salary with the ability to enhance earnings through our physicians' extra service program.
