    Description

    Position Overview:
    As a Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP), you will be responsible for designing, optimizing, evaluating, and delivering radiotherapy treatment plans. The role entails following technical standards, guidelines, and task group reports established by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).

    Education and Qualifications:

    • Master's Degree in Physics, biophysics, radiological physics, or health physics - Required
    • Doctorate in Physics, biophysics, radiological physics, or health physics - Preferred
    • 1 year of full-time training in therapeutic radiological physics - Required

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Proficiency in interpreting complex documents
    • Advanced mathematical skills including exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations
    • Application of mathematical concepts to various tasks such as frequency distribution, test reliability, validity, and correlation techniques
    • Logical and scientific problem-solving abilities
    • Effective communication and teamwork skills across diverse backgrounds and educational levels

    Licenses and Certifications:

    • American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics, Roentgen-ray and Gamma-ray Physics, X-ray and Radium Physics, or Radiological Physics
    • American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) certification in Radiation Oncology Physics or certification by the Canadian College of Medical Physics
    • Registration with Kansas Department of Health & Environment for providing radiation services
    • Completion of board certification within three years if board eligible

    Responsibilities:

    • Participate in the specification, selection, acceptance, and commissioning of radiation-producing machines and treatment-planning systems
    • Design and implement quality management programs for radiotherapy equipment
    • Ensure equipment maintenance and compliance with regulations
    • Review patient records and treatment plans for accuracy and completeness
    • Research new procedures and technologies
    • Approve procedures followed by radiation therapy and dosimetry staff
    • Establish policies to verify equipment specifications
    • Occasional travel required (5% outreach)
