    Description
    Qualified Medical Physicist (QMP) is engaged in the design, optimization, technical evaluation, and delivery of radiotherapy treatment plans.

    The QMP follows technical standards, guidelines, and task group reports set forth by the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).

    Education Qualifications
    Master's Degree Physics, biophysics, radiological physics, or health physics. Required
    Doctorate Physics, biophysics, radiological physics, or health physics. Preferred

    Experience Qualifications
    1 year Full time training in therapeutic radiological physics. Required

    Skills and Abilities
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents.
    Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.

    Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

    Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
    Ability to communicate and work in team environment with diverse backgrounds and educational levels.

    Licenses and Certifications
    Be certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) in

    Therapeutic radiological physics:
    or

    • Roentgen-ray and gamma-ray physics: or
    • X-ray and radium physics: or
    • Radiological physics

    Must be certified by the American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP) in Radiation Oncology Physics; or Certified by the Canadian College of Medical of Physics.

    Registered with Kansas Department of Health & Environment as a provider of radiation services in the area of calibration and compliance surveys of external beam radiation therapy units prior to employment start date.

    If board eligible must complete board certification within three years of employment.

    What you will do
    Participate in the specification, selection, acceptance, and commissioning of radiation-producing machines, accessories, and computerized treatment-planning systems.
    Design review, and implementation of a quality management program that involve the use of external-beam radiotherapy equipment.

    The quality program should recommend the equipment used, frequency of measurement, techniques to be followed, suggested performance criteria, action levels, and routes of notification.

    Supervise arrangements for proper maintenance of the equipment and work with the manufacturer to facilitate repairs.

    Evaluation of all equipment used in department for continued utility, appropriateness, reliable performance, and condition, making recommendations on a practical life span, obsolescence, and replacement.

    Maintain instrument calibration.

    Review patient charts, including initial treatment plans, new chart review, on treatment chart review, and end of treatment chart for completeness and accuracy.

    Oversee compliance with state and federal regulations and accepted technical standards related to radiation oncology and general radiation safety.

    Performs competency requirement for annual check as well as QA for SBRT/SRT.
    Provide written summary of physics activities and evaluation of quality program annually to medical director and administration.
    Research and implementation of new procedures and technology.

    Responsible for reviewing and approving the procedures followed by the radiation therapy and dosimetry staff in planning and delivering prescribed dose.

    Establish policies and procedures to verify that all equipment meets the manufacturer's specifications for new equipment or following repair.
