Description
Position Summary:
Reporting directly to the President, The Vice President of Finance and Administration/CFO is a key leadership role, responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial management, strategic planning, and administrative operations.
This position requires a seasoned finance professional with a strong track record in higher education or a related field, who can provide strategic financial guidance, optimize resource allocation, ensure compliance, and drive financial sustainability.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the university's financial future and contributing to its overall success.
Essential Job Duties:
Develop and implement financial strategies, goals, and policies in alignment with the university's mission, vision, and long-term objectives.
Provide strategic financial guidance to the President, Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
Prepare and present accurate financial reports, forecasts, and analyses to senior leadership, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop comprehensive budgets that support academic and operational needs.
Collaborate with stakeholders to optimize the equitable allocation of financial resources, ensuring the efficient and effective use of funds across the university.
Oversee financial operations, including accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and procurement, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
Collaborate with auditors and regulatory bodies to facilitate financial audits, reviews, and reporting, ensuring compliance and adherence to best practices.
Develop and implement investment strategies to maximize returns on the university's endowment and other financial assets, while managing risks appropriately.
Monitor investment performance and market trends, providing recommendations to the President and Board of Trustees for adjustments to investment portfolios.
Identify and assess financial risks, including market volatility, liquidity risks, and compliance risks, and implement risk mitigation strategies to protect the university's financial health.
Other Responsibilities:
Oversight for IT and Facilities departments
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge of financial management principles, practices, and regulations within the higher education industry.
Strong understanding of budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation processes.
Proficiency in financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting techniques.
Excellent leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to effectively lead and develop a diverse and inclusive team.
Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to drive financial and operational improvements.
Advanced knowledge of investment strategies, risk management, and compliance in the context of higher education finance.
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Proficiency in financial software systems and tools, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably in higher education or a related field.
Proven track record in strategic financial planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
Experience in managing complex financial operations and implementing internal controls.
Demonstrated success in investment management and optimizing returns on endowment funds.
Experience in leading financial audits, compliance reviews, and reporting processes.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is highly desirable.
