    The Center) is currently seeking a Chief Financial Officer to join our team. This is a full-time, permanent position, hybrid, based in Washington, DC. This is an exciting opportunity to grow the finance function of a nonprofit association and its members and partner organizations. Our Chief Financial Officer will lead the Centers financial strategies, develop, and implement internal control policies, and perform risk management/mitigation activities, as well as day-to-day functions.

    What Yo u l l B e D o i n g :

    The Chief financial officer will lead the organization's financial activities, ensuring the organization is supplied with accurate and timely financial information in compliance with best practices. They will report to and work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and oversee one financial staff team member. In addition, they will lead the financial management of the Centers Fiscal Sponsorship Program and relative relationships with government agencies. Simultaneously, they will oversee the financial structure of the Centers 800+ participating and dues paying members. Furthermore, they will serve as a liaison to our board finance committee, which meets 6 times a year. The Chief Financial Officer will lead all compliance, contracts, and grants management across all Center for Nonprofit Advancement entities.     Responsibilities include:

    A c co u n ti n g a n d R e p or ti ng

    • Regularly monitors cash flow, spending, and proper use of funds.
    • Lead accounting operations, including day-to-day accounting transactions.
    • Partners with organizational leadership to facilitate cross-departmental alignment that ensures all financial solutions positively support the organizations operational delivery needs.
    • Manages and leads recording and reporting of all organizational financial transactions, including accounts payable/receivable (revenue recognition and billing), payroll, general accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and maintaining work papers.
    Planning, Policy, and Investor Relations
    • Engages the finance committee of the board of directors and co-leaders to develop short- and medium-term financial plans and projections.
    • In partnership with the CEO, evaluates the financial position and health of the organization and shares analyses of fiscal trends and potential issues, including financial statements, with the Centers staff and board.
    • Develops and documents all internal fiscal controls, policies, and procedures.
    • Represents the Center to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, foundation executives, auditors, public officials, etc.
    • Remains current on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations; manages and leads annual audits.

    • Leads the financial transactions of the organization and partner organizations, ensuring timely and consistent reporting, proper documentation, and adherence to all funder agreements and other requirements.
    • Ensures that all regulations for compliance are met.
    • Leads the implementation and management of accounting-related systems used by the organization.
    • Reviews the preparation of the organization's financial information according to GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Practices).
    • Recommends and implements improvements to accounting, operations, internal controls, compliance policies and procedures, support strategy, and best practices.
    • Stays informed of tax code revisions and advises of any operational adjustments needed to accommodate revisions.
    • Ensures compliance with all applicable government finance regulations.

    Financial Oversight, Reporting, & Analysis
    • Advises the CEO in presentation of financial and budget reports to senior executives, board members and other network stakeholders.
    • Prepares timely, complete, and accurate financial regulatory reports, forecasts, budgets, variance analyses, and additional financial reports requested by senior management.
    • Prepares variance analysis and reporting results.
    • Financial reporting for management, finance committee, and Board decision-making and presentations.
    • Leads the development and implementation of the organizations annual budget.

    • A Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or other fields closely related to the job requirements is required; a CPA is preferred.
    • M i n i m u m of six ( 6) yea r s of diverse finance experience .
    • Significant experience in nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.
    • Experience with financial accounting systems like QuickBooks, , and Lockbox.
    • Experience managing finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) for a complex nonprofit with multiple funding sources, including government (federal and state) contracts and an affiliate structure with diverse program areas.
    • Empathetic and engaging individual, who listens well, is responsive, solutions-focused, and results-oriented; has the ability to coach staff.
    • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
    • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and a strong ability to tailor communication style to diverse audiences.
    • Agile change agent with the commitment and confidence to assume a leadership role in an evolving environment.
    • Unquestionable personal integrity, fairness, and credibility are necessary to gain the trust and commitment of individuals at all levels of the organization.
    • Demonstrated success at cultivating strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and creating partnerships at all organizational levels to achieve results.
