Anticipated start date July 1, 2024.

12-Month Contract (240 days).


Hiring Range:
$72,000-$82,000 DOQ/DOE.

SUMMARY:


The Special Education Coordinator is a member of the Student Services team who has the responsibility for working directly with special education case managers and building administrators to ensure effective programming and identification for students with disabilities.

The Special Education Coordinator will address all issues surrounding the development, implementation and appropriateness of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

  • Coordinates the delivery of special education and related services for qualifying students;
  • Assists the Director of Special Education with maintaining and monitoring compliance data;
  • Creates records and uploading documents for new/transfer students;
  • Schedules/chairs eligibility meetings;
  • Provides ongoing support to special education teams (respond to questions, problem solve concerns, review IEPS, other support as requested);
  • Assists in VAAP training, prescoring, and scoring;
  • Provides guidance to school teams regarding special education processes and regulations;
  • Attends IEP meetings as requested;
  • Responds to parent inquiries;
  • Assists with and/or leading Mandt training;
  • Assists the Director with professional development;
  • Case manages and facilitates services for eligible students who are placed outside the division's schools;
  • Supports implementation of special education programming in the division to provide a continuum of special education services and;
  • Performs other duties assigned by the Director of Special Education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


  • Thorough knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and compliance requirements, and of best practices in special education and related service delivery;
  • Possesses knowledge of assessments and their analysis/interpretation in regard to student achievement;
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively with instructional personnel, building administrators, teachers, and parents.;
  • Demonstrates the ability to present and deliver analytical data in an articulate manner to a variety of audiences, including oral presentations and written reports;
  • Demonstrates the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school personnel, teachers, and administrators, and parents and;
  • Demonstrates effective organization and administrative management skills.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Must possess a special education teaching endorsement and a minimum of five successful years teaching experience. Master's degree required; administration and supervision endorsement preferred.

Duties performed typically in school settings to include classrooms, gyms, cafeteria, auditorium and recreational areas.

While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hand, and talk or hear; light lifting up to 40 pounds and other limited physical activities are required.

Movement of students by wheelchairs and other mechanical devices may be required.
