Non-Exempt


SCHEDULE:
11P-8A (Sun. - Thurs.) & 11P-8A (Tues. - Sat.)


SALARY:

$20.00- $22.00 per hour plus a $1.00 shift differential DOE

The Overnight Support Staff reports to the Supervisor and/or Program Manager in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Catholic Charities Diocese of San Diego.

The Overnight Support Staff carries out a variety of duties related to the operation of a non-congregate migrant sheltering and case management program, including conducting intake and orientation for arrivals and providing support that meets the needs of clients assisted including but not limited to the provision of case management, food, hygiene items, and coordination of travel to help migrants' evolving needs.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Perform client intake based on established criteria.
  • Welcome new clients, inform them of the support available to them and provide support services, food, hygiene items, clothing and shelter.
  • Provide morning wake up.
  • Monitor the shelter and make reports in daily log as required by supervisor and program design.
  • Enforce program limits, policies, and procedures.
  • Report and keep management apprised of issues, problems, complaints, and/or concerns expressed by the residents of the shelter or related to staff members.
  • Perform a variety of shelteringrelated duties such as organizing and distributing supply deliveries.
  • Respond to emergencies and support others through sharing knowledge and information.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed, including determining when it is necessary to involve other staff, the Supervisor, Program Manager, or the authorities.
  • Monitor residents to ensure a secure, safe, peaceful environment suitable to sleep.
  • Complete periodic hallway checks, at least quarterly (every 2 hours) security checks of entry and exit doors, windows.
  • Ensure stairwells are "clear" of barriers and/or unauthorized persons attempting entry to facility.
  • Report security breaches immediately to supervisor, call police, and follow safety protocols of program.
  • Make accurate incident reports to supervisor and complete related paperwork. Keep management apprised of issues of safety and security, and problems, complaints and/or concerns expressed by the guests of the shelter, its operation, or management.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform general administrative functions such as noting within the communication/daily log, answering the phone, and responding to inperson inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Submit all required daily, weekly, and monthly reports within the required time frames.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily meet each of the qualifications listed below.

  • Associate's Degree (A.A.) or equivalent twoyears life/work experience, six months to oneyear related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One or more years of experience working with vulnerable populations and/or foreignborn populations to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services preferred.
  • Calm demeanor, with ability to access situations and make decisions for required actions.
  • Good computer skills and ability to become proficient with database software.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to multitask and remain patient with guests and coworkers.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and independently.
  • Ability to add and subtract twodigit numbers, and to multiply and divide.
  • Exemplary, professional work habits verified by previous employers.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment while maintaining a professional and calm demeanor.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or other languages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication using proper grammar and vocabulary.
