The West Fargo Park District is seeking a creative professional to serve as our Science Technology Program Coordinator for science and special interest classes.

As a Program Coordinator, you will collaborate with a supervising Recreation Specialist and work in conjunction with the Art Program Coordinator, as well as other Program Coordinators and Assistants, to provide engaging and interactive classes for West Fargo Park District program participants.

This position is very part-time, with approximately 5-10 hours per week.

These hours will consist of class prep, instruction and special events related to science, technology, and creative arts programming September through mid-May, on sporadic evenings and weekends, with some weeks containing no hours.

If desired, opportunities for additional hours are available through other programming within the park district.

Summer hours are not required for this position; however, should the candidate choose to work through the summer, the position would remain part-time, increasing to approximately 25-40 hours per week.

These hours will consist of class prep, instruction, and special events related to science, technology, and creative arts programming June through mid-August, during the weekday and sporadic weekday evenings.

The opportunity for additional hours through other programming within the park district will remain available.

Responsibilities

Prep and teach science classes, clean-up after science and art classes, and work at all special events (approximately 95% youth classes and 5% adult programs).

Create engaging lesson plans including projects, hands-on activities, and visual presentations for single and multi-day recreation classes.

Research current trends to keep classes content relevant.

Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.

Provide instruction and project examples for participants.

Communicate openly with the supervising Recreation Specialist.

Provide a great recreational experience for participants with a variety of abilities, behaviors, and backgrounds.

Keep the Creative Studio organized and presentable.

Maintain and inventory Creative Studio supplies.

Submit timely supply order requests to the supervising Recreation Specialist.

Perform other basic tasks as needed, as directed by the Recreation Specialist.

Requirements

Ability to commit to the West Fargo Park District for the entire fall/winter season from September through mid-May. Classes are typically Monday-Friday in the evenings and on weekends. Weekday hours are not required.

Must be able to multi-task, adapt to change, and make quick decisions.

Experience with and genuine enjoyment working with children.

Excellent verbal and listening skills, organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.

Must be able to manage a classroom while also providing a fun and relaxed experience for participants.

Basic knowledge of scientific methods and the ability to explain science experiments to children,

Basic experience with painting, drawing, mixed media, and a variety of other art mediums, with the ability to explain directions, as directed by the Art Program Coordinator.

Must have basic computer, smart TV, and technology knowledge. Google Slides and Google Chromecast experience preferred.

Must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand and sit for extended periods of time.
