We have an amazing opportunity for a Medical Director to join a new BMC behavioral healthcare continuum located in Brockton, MA that expands the access to care for our valuable populations.
BMC Brockton Behavioral Health Center (BBHC) and CSS includes three inpatient psychiatry units totally 80-beds and a 26-bed Clinical Stabilization Service (CSS).
BBHC operates as a behavioral health accountable care organization providing cutting edge inpatient treatment and stabilization for individuals experiencing complex mental health and substance use treatment needs.
The Medical Director of Addiction Services and Inpatient Consultation is a key leader at the BMC BBHC, partnering with leaders in psychiatry, nursing and operations to ensure delivery of high quality, efficient care in coordination with external partners.
This individual is responsible for supervising advanced practice providers providing addiction and medical care at the CSS and inpatient psychiatry facilities, as well as leading key quality improvement and workforce development initiatives at the CSS in support of the facility's strategic goals.
In addition, the individual provides patient care at the CSS.we anticipate that the individual could spend the remainder of their time in inpatient hospital, primary care, or addiction medicine role(s) at the BMC main campus, depending on available opportunities; CSS Responsibilities
~ General medical oversight
Participate in daily huddles at least three days per week with other BBHC leaders, to review census and other data and discuss any time sensitive clinical, quality, compliance or treatment related events
Provide clinical direction and expertise to a multidisciplinary care team related to addiction treatment and primary care, including at least weekly attendance of the treatment team meeting
Participate in on-call rotation as back-up for NPs, to address medical events and medication management issues afterhours.
Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to improve patient care outcomes.
~ Supervise CSS NPs
Facilitate trainings on basics of patient care and advanced medical topics
Provide regularly scheduled documented supervision to NPs in accordance with BSAS regulations.
Partner with BMC pharmacy leadership to continue to improve pharmacy services and optimize formulary
Attend monthly pharmacy clinical meetings to review general prescribing practices and formulary issues.
Collaborate with BMC IT to optimize CSS EMR to reflect any new programs or clinical workflows
Lead collaboration with Addiction Medicine at BMC Main Campus to optimize patient referral workflows and coordination of care
Lead quality improvement projects in alignment with CSS strategic objectives, e.g.
Psychiatry access for CSS patients with mental health conditions
Making CSS accessible to patients who require long term IV antibiotics or have other complex medical conditions such as ESRD
~ Provide clinical care (4-8 hours/wk) combining addiction medicine care and any as-needed assessment and management of chronic medical conditions or new medical symptoms to patients on the CSS.
Inpatient Psychiatry Consultation Responsibilities
Supervise Medical NPs who do medical intakes and support patients with chronic conditions or acute medical concerns in the inpatient psychiatry program, via:
Regular supervision meetings
Available for NP questions on patient care 5 days a week, with participation in on-call rotation for weekend NP questions.
Training on advanced medical concepts (eg. HIV management, end stage liver disease, diabetes management)Provide Support and training for Addiction Medicine across BBHC
Plan and run monthly addiction medicine trainin:g sessions
Support and train medical NPs in addiction care
Coordinate with addiction medicine leadership at BMC main and the Grayken Center
~ Assist Medical Director in protocols for safe management of medical issues at BBHC, e.g.
Administrative Management of NPs
Managing required training
Fellowship trained and/or Board Certified in Addiction Medicine preferred
At least 2 years of post-training clinical addiction medicine and general medicine experience
At least 1 year of experience with clinical leadership, such as experience in leading quality improvement, clinical program development, or educational leadership
Exceptional clinical skills in Addiction Medicine, including expertise in withdrawal management and treatment of opioid use disorder, benzodiazepine use disorder, alcohol use disorder and stimulant use disorder
Strong skills in triage, diagnosis and management of the acute and chronic general medical conditions that co-occur with substance use disorder and mental health conditions
Skills and enthusiasm in personnel management, and in teaching and supervising Nurse Practitioners and trainees
Energized and motivated about quality improvement and clinical program development to optimize our ability to meet our patients' needs
Creative problem-solver with strong organizational skills, who is able to partner with operations leaders to provide clinical leadership of discrete projects
Strong orientation around outcomes and performance
