    Are you excited by the potential of large-scale carbon removal?

    If so, Captura Corp. is seeking an Ocean Test Engineer to join us.

    Captura is an early-stage technology start-up with the mission to develop globally scalable carbon removal to support a sustainable future for the world's climate. Captura's unique technology was developed and proven in Caltech's laboratories and uses established electrochemical concepts to enable gigaton-scalable solutions for removing carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere via direct ocean capture. We capture carbon dioxide using only renewable electricity and seawater, creating no byproducts. CO2-depleted seawater is returned to the ocean to absorb CO2 that comes from the atmosphere.

    As a member of the R&D team, you will be responsible for onsite operation and maintenance of Captura's R&D System operating at Captura's ocean-based lab facility in San Pedro, CA, under the supervision of senior engineers.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Test, monitor, maintain on-site operation of Captura's lab-scale seawater degassing system and evaluate the system's performance.
    • Perform longevity test and prepare detailed documentation of system operation.
    • Collect, analyze, and document seawater quality data from Captura's testing site.
    • Maintain seawater filtration equipment and develop new filtration techniques to achieve consistent seawater quality.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues, identify root cause, and resolve them when they arise.
    • Work with senior engineers to design, fabricate, assemble, test, and install multiple lab-scale oceanwater degassing units, system monitoring, and data acquisition.
    • Develop comprehensive SOPs covering system start-up, shut down, CIP procedures and routine maintenance for all test systems.
    • Implement system design improvements, upgrade test rigs and piping components, integrate system control and automation as needed.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, engineering, ocean health, and pilot teams.
    • Be proactive about challenges or constraints within the project and seek to manage them accordingly.
    • Foster effective teamwork among R&D team in a dynamic, fast-paced technical environment

    Educational/Experience Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, or other relevant engineering disciplines.
    • Experienced in piping and fitting, process instrumentation, system monitoring, gas and liquid handling.
    • Hands-on experience in acid and base handling and inorganic chemicals.
    • Ability to work with electronics, system control and data acquisition.
    • Ability to work independently in small teams.
    • Technical understanding of fluid dynamics.
    • Highly motivated to work in climate tech, emerging carbon capture industry in an early-stage commercial environment.
