THE POSITION:


Do you have a background in the field of maintenance and want an opportunity to put that experience to great use? The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), 23rd Street Philadelphia Readiness Center, is actively seeking a Maintenance Repairman 2.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

In this position, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of buildings, fixtures, machinery, and equipment. Work is performed in the electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting, and masonry trades.

Some of your duties will include rough and finish carpentry; preparing and painting interior and exterior surfaces; installing and repairing various fixtures including sinks, and faucets; installing and replacing electrical panels, circuits and fixtures; repairing air conditioning and heating equipment; mowing grass and removing snow; and repairing concrete and masonry.

Your duties will require you to operate and maintain both manual and power tools of the trade on a regular basis.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Fulltime employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday
  • Friday, with 30minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1;
    or:
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades;
    or:
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirement:


  • This position requires possession of a valid PA noncommercial Class C Driver's License

Additional Requirements:


  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):


  • Completion of any formal training (high school vocational program, apprenticeship, or posthigh school technical training program) in a skilled building, electrical, or mechanical trade
  • Experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades (Examples of qualifying trades include carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, masonry, steam fitting/pipefitting, refrigeration/HVAC, painting, roofing/tinsmith, drywall/plasterer, and automotive mechanic work that includes performing technical duties on motors, engines, and electrical systems.)
  • Experience in commercial carpentry
  • Experience in the plumbing trade
  • Experience in the electrical trade
  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of refrigeration and/or HVAC systems
  • Experience in commercial maintenance of buildings and equipment
  • Experience with 3phase wiring including emergency generators, Automatic Transfer Switches, switch gears and 3phase panels
  • Experience with domestic hot water mixing valves, recirculating loops, aqua stats and instantaneous water heaters
  • Experience with the provisions of Life Safety Codes and Uniform Construction Code (UCC), as it relates to repairs of buildings
  • Structural experience in the maintenance or repair of buildings
