    About Atmosphere Academy

    Atmosphere Academy is a SUNY-approved charter school that serves Bronx School District 10 students and families in grades 6 through 8. Atmosphere's mission is to provide an "atmosphere" for learning in which students and teachers realize their potential as collaborative leaders. To realize this goal, Atmosphere has developed a suite of robust academic and enrichment programming in conjunction with key partners that are designed to develop students' skills, knowledge, and character. Similarly, the school promotes a professional culture for its faculty and staff that focuses on distributed leadership and continuous improvement through embedded professional development, coaching, mentoring, and teaming.

    Culture Assistant

    The Culture Assistant plays a vital role in supporting students' positive behavior by enforcing school wide rules, expectations and norms. The Culture Assistant reports directly to the CCO and CEO. She/he is a key member of the School Culture team/department.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required
    • Masters degree from an accredited college or university preferred
    • Crisis Intervention certified preferred
    • Relevant experience in a charter school or other school setting
    • Proven track record of successfully working with Atmosphere's student population
    • Experience working with diverse student groupings that may include a range of ELL students, special education students, general education students, and gifted students
    • Strong interpersonal skills and track record of collaborating with diverse stakeholders
    • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
    • Relentless determination to do whatever it takes to help Atmosphere students succeed
    • Proactive and creative problem-solver
    • Values input and feedback
    • Team-player capable of working both collaboratively and independently

    Responsibilities

    Culture Assistant Duties

    Discipline

    • To enforce and handle school policies as defined by the N.Y.C. Department of Education, discipline policy, social emotional and other problems of student behavior and control with Dean of Culture
    • To coordinate the activities of the Dean's Office with the Chief Culture Officer (CCO), Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Culture Associate
    • Support executing consequences such as lunch after school and Saturday Reflection/Detention, In School Suspension and Out of School Suspension with Culture Associate
    • Administer records, documentation, and other compliance activities related to discipline Recommend students for suspension in accordance with the discipline policy

    Restorative Justice

    • Representative, to communicate and confer with parents, other staff members and outside agencies
    • Support the school community/grade level with Restorative Justice and Restorative Practices
    • Collaborate within Restorative Justice classes with with students each team each week
    • Support the school community to discuss behavior, discipline, culture temperature topics, peer mediation, social emotional learning

    Intervention

    • Properly address the improvement of student attendance and discipline
    • Reports illegal acts to the proper authorities
    • Confers with students and parents on security matters
    • Investigates student complaints and grievances
    • Interviews students and witnesses in disciplinary investigations
    • Investigate, adjudicate, and monitor minor infractions of the school discipline code in the form of progressive discipline such as detentions, classroom referrals, Saturday detention, in-school suspension and out of school suspension
    • Re-enters students upon completion of out-of-school suspensions, facilitates student/teacher re-entry meetings, and provides Peer Mediation to resolve student conflicts.
    • Plan with the Intervention team weekly to support student and teacher
    • Support afternoon After school Intervention Services, twice a week starting September until June

    Culture

    • To coordinate and perform all building and grounds patrols relative to student and staff safety
    • Patrols buildings and grounds
    • Collaborate with teachers, admin, Culture Associate, and officers
    • Support elective program on Friday
    • Assists students in establishing high standards of conduct
    • Morning Entry, Lunch/Recess, Dismissal, building supervision, and transition support
    • Coordinates with Culture Associate to ensure coverage at all school events at which coverage is necessary.

    Achievement

    • Support After school Achievement (2 sessions per week) starting October until Math State Exam
    • Support Achievement days during the break (accumulate comp time)
    • Support Achievement assemblies during the week

    Other Duties

    • Assists students in establishing high standards of conduct
    • Provides input as needed for student placement and evaluation
    • Makes referrals to other professional staff members in the District
    • Advises on modification of program to meet individual student needs
    • Assists new students with transitioning to school
    • Implements and enforces Board Policies
    • Prepares administrative reports
    • Any and all other responsibilities as delegated and assigned by the Board of Trustees and the CEO
    • Review and support the data from the Attendance Team
    • Participate in some events outside of normal school hours
