    Under the direction of and reporting to the Register of Wills the Paralegal will assist the Deputy of Orphans' Court and the Register of Wills by providing clerical and research support services including document preparation and review; research, investigations, and fact-checking; and fulfilling reporting requirements.

    Provide general legal and administrative support for all ROW offices operations.

    Duties of Position

    Works with attorneys, court staff, and other professionals to discuss proceedings and filings.


    Reviews for compliance legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories; files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures.

    Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.

    Tracks open and pending petitions before the Register of Wills, including monitoring return dates and citations.


    Evaluates petitions involving estates for compliance with the Orphans' Court rules and instructs filers of requirements relating to obtaining consents and renunications.

    Analyzes, reviews, and maintains records regarding guardianships, estates, and other filings.

    Performs other related duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.

    Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

    Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

    Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

    Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.

    Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

    EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE


    Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field or relevant professional experience required; Bachelors degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred.

    Some related experience preferred.

    Residence Requirement:
    The County of Delaware has a residency requirement for employees.

    Anyone applying for this job must reside in Delaware County or be willing to move to the County within three months of starting employment.
