    The Science, Technology, and Society (STS) program at Tufts University is seeking a part-time lecturer in science and technology studies, anthropology, communication and media studies, digital humanities, and related fields for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters (or Spring 2025 and Fall 2025 semesters). Topical and geographic areas are open.

    The candidate will teach one lecture course of their own design, in their area of STS expertise. This course should be a general survey course that familiarizes undergraduate students with concepts and methods in STS, introduces them to the candidate's area of expertise, and serves as a gateway course for the STS co-major . This course should be taught in the second semester of the position, in Spring 2025 or Fall 2025. We expect enrollment for this course to be 25-40 students.

    The candidate will also lead two reading- and discussion-only courses called Reading Labs. These smaller courses help students connect STS themes to content from other courses in the sciences and require no written work beyond reading responses, at the instructor's discretion. The FA24 reading lab will be themed around classification (although the course need not align exactly with previous iterations). The SP25 reading lab can be drawn from previous iterations (e.g., models , learning, life ), or it can be new, based on the candidate's own expertise. Reading labs are capped at 15 students.

    A PhD in STS, anthropology, sociology, history, or related fields with evidence of excellence in teaching and an ability to engage with diverse students with different pedagogies. ABD candidates will be considered.

    About : Science, Technology, and Society at Tufts draws on humanities and social sciences approaches to study science and technology in their social context.     An interdisciplinary STS major and minor have been available at Tufts since Spring 2016. Training in STS prepares students for an extremely wide range of future careers, not only within academia but also in research, journalism, education, medicine, and policy and planning related to science and technology.
