Summary of Job Duties:
The Graduate School & International Education (GSIE) invites applications for the position of Director and Instructor of the University of Arkansas's Intensive English Language Program beginning January 8, 2024. The successful candidate will hold a one-quarter time administrative load with a three-quarter time teaching load per calendar year. Administrative responsibilities will include developing the curriculum, scheduling classes, managing teaching loads of associated faculty, coordinating testing schedules, maintaining and reporting program related data, and serving as a liaison across GSIE and campus units that serve international students. The Director will be responsible for the creation of the University of Arkansas Intensive English Program and leading the graduate school's effort to accredit the Intensive English Program with the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation utilizing the CEA standards.
The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the inclusive excellence of the academic community and who have a demonstrated record of achievement teaching international students. The position is for an initial term of one year with the possibility of reappointment pending satisfactory performance.
The Graduate School & International Education supports graduate and undergraduate international students through its offices of International Students & Scholars, Sponsored Students & Special Programs, Study Abroad and International Exchange, and International Admissions. The Intensive English Program (IEP), designed to developing language proficiency to meet University admission requirements, is part of the GSIE's English Language and Cultural Program (ELAC). The intensive English language courses deliver foundational English skills in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing preparing students for subsequent English Language and Culture courses that focus on written and spoken English associated with academic presentations, research writing, and preparation for international graduate assistants who assist or teach in campus University classes.
Screening of applications will begin in December 2023 and continue until the position is filled. Applicants must submit a CV, cover letter, evidence of teaching effectiveness/teaching portfolio, and a list of three professional references.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Applied linguistics, or a related field conferred by the start of the position
• At least two years of experience within an accredited IEP program, including internships associated with advanced TESL/TESOL degree completion

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in IEP course and curriculum development
• Ph.D. or advanced certificates in TESL/TESOL, Foreign Language, or Higher Education fields
• Work experience in higher education
• Minimum of 1 year serving as Director or Assistant Director of an IEP
• Familiarity with CEA standards for accreditation

Additional Information:

Salary Information:

$68,000 – $72,000. Commensurate with education and experience.
