POSITION SUMMARY:
In this crucial election year, the Senior Organizer - California will play a critical role managing large-scale projects on the team to supercharge our electoral and civic engagement programs.This role is for somebody who is passionate about strengthening and diversifying the environmental movement, and sees people power built through leaderful, distributed organizing and on-the-ground action as the way to win big change.

The Senior Organizer - California is a 6-month contract position and is based in California. This role is full-time, hybrid, exempt and benefits-eligible position that is represented by the Progressive Workers Union and reports to the Grassroots Organizing Director.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Project Manage & Implement Voter Contact Programs in California:

• Manage and implement a relational voter contact program in California to defeat big oil at the ballot box and elect climate champions.
• Project manage staff within DOT and across departments as needed in carrying out relational voter contact programs.
• Train volunteers, leaders, and staff in effective persuasion and voter mobilization communications.

Deepen Engagement & Volunteer Leadership:

• Strategically build Greenpeace's organizing network in California, scaling up the number of volunteers and activists working with Greenpeace to elect climate champions and change laws and systems that are hurting people and the climate.
• Invest in developing volunteer leadership capacity across California to increase impact.

Develop External Partnerships to Amplify Impact:

• Develop external partnerships that strengthen our electoral and civic engagement programs, specifically in California.
• Identify and recruit strategically networked individuals and organizations, including grassroots organizations, labor, and others as identified in strategic planning, to expand the impact and reach of our electoral and civic engagement campaigns.
• Recruit allies to pilot electoral programs, integrate input, and partner on events and trainings that engage their networks to multiply impact and strengthen solidarity.

Ensure Compliance:

• Ensure all staff involved in the project diligently track hours and follow provided legal guidance.
• Track all Independent Expenditures, and ensure legal reviews of public-facing content.

Foster Positive Team Culture:

• Build a culture of learning and experimentation on the team, leading by example and trying out new ways of moving volunteers up our leadership ladder.

Education and Experience:

• Minimum 7 years organizing experience, with at least 2 electoral organizing cycles.
• Proven experience managing complex projects and collaborating with project team members and across departments, as needed.
• Experience utilizing digital tools to mobilize people -- including CRMs, email, web tools and/or SMS (broadcast or peer-to-peer) desired.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage complex projects to engage volunteers and constituents in producing results -- including setting project goals, building a roadmap, delegating sub-projects and tasks, and keeping the project on track to completion.
• Experience navigating issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion and a deep commitment to advancing these values.
• A proven track record of designing and delivering high impact, volunteer-centered campaigns that deliver real world outcomes

Work Hours, Working Styles, and Additional Benefits:

• Frequent work outside of normal business hours and/or on weekends required for volunteer calls, trainings, coalition/ campaign events.
• Based in California with potential for travel within California, an estimated 3-5 days per month for required in-person activities such as: coalition/ campaign events, hosting trainings and meetings with allies.

The pay grade for this role is a 3, and the salary anticipated to be within the range of $78,668 - $85,146 will be provided to the successful candidate having met the minimum requirements for the position consistent with reflecting our commitment to maintaining competitive and fair compensation practices.
