    Description

    THE POSITION


    Although there is a salary range for this position, the candidate hired into this position will be hired at the bottom of the salary range.


    This recruitment will be used to establish an open competitive and promotional eligibility list that may be used to fill this vacancy and vacancies occurring in this classification for a minimum period of six (6) months.

    Performs journey-level maintenance and repairs on traffic communications systems/networks.


    FLSA STATUS:
    Non-Exempt

    Working Conditions:
    May work shifts on days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.


    Required Forms:

    Candidates should ensure they highlight any of the following professional experience they possess on their applications/resumes:


    • Ability to troubleshoot networking equipment such as layer 2 switches
    • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting CCTV equipment and systems
    • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting broadband radio equipment
    • Ability to decipher fiber optic drawings

    REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Work Experience:

    Equivalent to a High School Diploma/GED and successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship as an electronic technician and two (2) years of journey-level experience in communications equipment/network troubleshooting and repair.


    Licensing and Certifications:

    Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Nevada driver's license-CDL, or agree to obtain a Nevada Class B driver's license - CDL within 90 days of date of hire.

    Must possess valid International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Level I certification, or agree to obtain certification within one (1) year of date of hire.


    Background Investigation:

    Employment with the Regional Transportation Commission in this position is contingent upon successful completion of a comprehensive background investigation, including qualifying education/experience/licensure/certification verification, social security trace, criminal history records review, driving history records check, and verification of no previous positive drug tests in safety sensitive positions as defined by 49 CFR Part 40 (as amended) in the last three years.


    Medical Examination / Drug Screening:

    Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician, and a DOT pre-employment drug screening.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS


    Physical ability to perform construction, maintenance and related work, including climbing and/or crawling in areas that are not handicap accessible; stamina to stand and walk for extended periods of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds with proper equipment; working at heights in a bucket truck; working in and around live traffic; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

    Accommodations may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodations.

    Work is subject to exposure to high voltage, fumes, chemicals and solvents.

    This classification is designed as "safety sensitive".

    This designation requires the incumbent to agree to random drug and alcohol testing, reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and United States Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations (49 CFR 40 & 655 as amended).


    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
    Intelligent Traffic Communications (ITS) equipment. Configures, installs, maintains, and repairs a network of layer 2 switches. Configures, installs, maintains, and repairs networked PTZ cameras. Configures, installs, maintains, and repairs broadband radio equipment used in networking. Troubleshoots fiber optic communications networks. Provides and maintains reports and records of work performed as required. Reviews construction plans and specifications, and performs inspections of new construction projects/equipment. Maintains inventory of parts and supplies; orders materials as needed. Efficiently operates many different specialized computer programs as well as standard office programs. Provides information and assistance to internal and external customers as required. Works with local agency partners and outside contractors on new projects and/or repairs. Other duties as assigned
