    Pay PhilosophyThe typical starting salary range for this role (approximately $106,000 - $115,000) is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location.

    The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.

    Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

    Description This role is primarily remote except for required appearances.

    Experienced trial lawyer:

    You'll manage the entire legal process, from investigation and discovery though trial prep and court proceedings and negotiating settlements as required.


    Strategic partner:

    Researching all applicable laws and findings, you will develop appropriate legal strategies for all stages of litigation and share them with claims representatives and insured clients.


    People person:

    You'll establish and maintain good relationships with claims reps and clients, and occasionally conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims or other departments.


    Effective communicator:
    You'll develop and render clear, unambiguous legal opinions and strategies, and draft legal documents, pleadings, motions and opinions.

    Collaborative mentor:

    You'll provide guidance and direction to junior attorneys, paralegals or law clerks, while also having opportunities to interact and collaborate with Home Office Legal.


    QualificationsWhat you've got:
    Experience

    Membership in the Indiana Bar
    Appropriate special licenses to practice before boards or federal courts preferred
    A minimum of five years of successful experience as first chair
    Experience in insurance defense strongly preferred

    Skills

    Talent for cultivating strong working relationships with internal and external partners
    Aptitude for detail-oriented, analytical thinking
    Persuasive oral and written communication skills

    Knowledge

    Broad knowledge of insurance law
    Familiarity with the latest developments in the practice of law, as well as pertinent knowledge in related fields
    Process-oriented mindset, with proven ability to meet deadlines and stay organized
    Proficiency with technologies that reduce costs and facilitate the practice of law and remote work

    Education

    A JD degree
