    Description

    As the Universitys largest and most varied academic unit, the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is comprised of artists, learners, performers, scholars, scientists, and teachers across 21+ departments, programs, schools, and centers and acts as a central hub where many of the University's disciplines intersect. Nearly all 6,000 undergraduates at the University take liberal arts courses with us, and about one-third of these students declare a first major in a CAHSS program. Most of our departments, programs and schools offer master's or doctoral programs. CAHSS scholars, artists, instructors, staff, and students collaborate in a shared quest for knowledge about the human condition and the development of skills to improve our local and global communities. The diverse scope of CAHSS allows our students to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed at nearly any career in todays global society.

    Department Summary

    The Department of Theatre within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is a dynamic department dedicated to comprehensive undergraduate theatre training via a program of study (BA in Theatre) defined by its commitment to breadth of understanding, hands-on experience, and demonstrated excellence in Acting, Directing, Design, Playwriting, Dramaturgy, History, Literature, and Management.

    Position Summary

    The Department of Theatre seeks qualified individuals to join our adjunct pool for non-benefited, part-time teaching assignments in Theatre at the University of Denver in the academic year.

    Adjunct Theatre faculty members teach 4-credit undergraduate courses. The opportunity exists to teach both introductory courses as well as higher-level offerings. The specific courses involved may vary from quarter to quarter and openings to teach these courses develop on a periodic basis, depending on departmental needs. At this time, we are searching for Fall 2024, Winter 2025 and Spring 2025 instructors only, however the opportunity may develop to teach courses in the future.

    Essential Functions

    • Course instruction and grading.
    • Preparation of class materials.
    • Weekly office hours.
    • Guidance and support of students.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Background and expertise in Theatre.
    • Ability to teach in-person coursework on DUs main campus

    Required Qualifications

    • Previous teaching experience (e.g. as a Teaching assistant with classroom discussion sections and grading responsibilities as part of a Master's or Doctoral program) and clear promise of ability to teach at the college level.
    • Availability to teach classes "face-to-face" in physical classrooms at the University of Denver.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master's degree, PhD or ABD in theatre or relevant field.

    Varies.

    While the Universitys administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The Universitys academic calendars are posted on the registrars website:

    Course Rate

    The rate is $4,772 per four-credit course

    The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information-but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
