The Braunschweig Cultural Heritage Foundation is a public law foundation. It preserves and promotes the cultural and historical interests of the former state of Braunschweig and manages the dependent assets of the Braunschweig United Monastery and Study Fund, the Braunschweig Foundation and the remaining foundation assets.

The foundation owns historical and listed churches and monasteries that are used for various purposes. These include, among others, the Kaiserdom in Königslutter, the St. Marienberg Monastery in Helmstedt, the Mariental Monastery Estate, the Riddagshausen Monastery Church, and the Walkenried Monastery Complex. In addition, there are special obligations for various churches and chapels owned by the Protestant State Church. Other tasks are to be carried out in connection with various monastery and foundation properties. This makes the Braunschweig Cultural Heritage Foundation a significant owner of cultural-historical properties.
