The Institute for Quality Development in Education (IQB) e.V. is a scientific institution of the federal states of Germany for the further development of the educational quality of their school systems. A central basis for this work are the cross-state educational standards of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education, which define the competencies that students should acquire at certain points in their school career. The IQB regularly checks nationwide to what extent these competency goals are being achieved in schools and supports the federal states in implementing the educational standards. The IQB is one of the most important institutes active in the field of empirical educational research.
