    Description
    General description


    • Monitor all Dynamic Positioning instrumentation and carry out appropriate tests and calibration on the system
    • Ensure operational procedures and guidelines are adhered to
    • Monitor the location of standby and supply vessels
    • Keep a log of weather and wind conditions
    • Assist in performing stability calculations in co-operation with the Marine Section Leader
    • Maintain the DP Logbook
    • Ensure that instrument records and data logs are kept and filed in accordance with OIM's instructions
    • Substitute for the Marine Section Leader / Asst.
    Marine Section Leader in his day-to-day duties as required


    • Work Permit Administrator - controlling and monitoring activation and de-activation of:
    • Work permits
    • Coordination of permits activated
    • Controlling of PTW board on the bridge
    • Advise to MSL/OIM in case of any conflict.
    Responsibility


    • The SDPO is responsible for the safe station keeping of the unit. He is the primary operator and watch keeper at the Dynamic Positioning, DP, control desk and the senior watchkeeper in the Central Control Room, CCR.
    • The SDPO operates and monitors the DP system when in DP mode and monitors logistical operations associated with the unit.
    • When underway the SDPO is the senior watch keeping officer on the bridge.
    • Furthermore the SDPO is responsible for:
    • Maintaining a safe navigational watch in transit and drilling mode as per the
    requirements of the STCW Code Section A-VIII, Standards Regarding Watchkeeping


    • Ensuring that the OIM is kept fully informed of ongoing and proposed operations that may affect the position keeping, the stability and the safety of the rig and its personnel
    • Notifying the OIM when instrument readings deviate from planned values or when abnormal trends are detected and according to Well Specific Operating Guidelines ( WSOG ).
    • Keeping the Rig Floor and Engine Room crews fully informed regarding the DP status. Reference should be made to the OIM's Standing Orders
    • Continuous monitoring of rig stability, in particular during cargo operations.
    Carry out necessary ballast operation, record keeping of ballast and cargo
    operations for Water Ballast Management purposes and stability calculations


    • Ensuring that any faults in the DP system are reported in due time to the OIM and to the relevant rig departments and that these faults are duly recorded in the DP faults logbook
    • Ensuring that all mandatory and statutory nautical publications are kept up to date and in good order
    • Giving permission for other vessels coming within the rig's 500m safety zone
    ensuring that the checklist for vessels entering the safety zone is completed and that direct communications are available and tested between the rig and the support vessel


    • Ensuring that visiting support vessels exchange the information required by the ISPS Code and that such information is officially recorded and filed under the supervision of the Ship Security Officer, SSO
    • The immediate training and mentoring of the Assistant Dynamic Positioning Operators in their DP duties as per the DP training programme and the recommendations of the IMCA publication M 117
    • Assisting the Marine Section Leader and the Safety Officer in the maintenance and updating of the rig's marine and safety equipment as required
    • Supervising the Dynamic Positioning Operator and the Assistant Dynamic Positioning Operator in their duties as the GMDSS Radio Operator and maintaining the GMDSS logbook.
    • When connected the SDPO is not to leave the Central Control Room.
    • The SDPO is delegated the authority required to fulfill the responsibilities and
    duties listed in this job description including actions preceding a Yellow and a
    Red DP alert status and instigating a Yellow or a Red DP alert status.
    Authority Where responsibility is allocated the matching authority is also granted, unless otherwise stated. Stop any operation when deemed unsafe to continue.
    Documentation and record responsibilities

    • Monthly Report, Marine Section and DP sections
    • Drill reports
    • GMDSS radio log book.
    • Logbook of updates of nautical publications.
    Qualification requirements

    Experience:

    • Minimum 2-3 years of experience as DPO

    Certification Requirements:

    • Training according to training matrix
    • Certificate of Competency - STCW A-II/2 Chief Officer
    • Dynamic Positioning Operator Unlimited certificate issued by Nautical Institute or
    equivalent


    • GMDSS certificate

    Additional Skills:

    • Computer literate
    • Conversant with environmental management, quality management and safety management principles
    • Good verbal and written English skills

    Other SDPO or a DPO. The OIM, Marine Section Leader or Asst.
    Marine Section Leader may relieve the SDPO
